I think you will find that tire diameter changes with tire width despite matching the profile.

I think you will find that that is absolutely correct, yet has absolutely nothing to do with what the guy you quoted, or myself, were talking about.

The guy you quoted was talking about tread depth, NOT tire profile. You then equated tread depth with staggered tire sizes, which are completely different.

You do realize that tread depth != tire profile size, right?

I equated tread depth with tire diameter.

He is saying that the difference in tread depth, and therefore tire diameter, will cause issues. I'm saying that it's not that big of a deal.

If you're trying to catch that I don't know wtf I am talking about then good luck, if you're confused as to what I'm saying then I'm sorry about that.

When my civic ('95 cx) got stolen, I bought another civic ('07 coupe) a week after I got the check from the insurance company.

If it happened again, I'd probably buy the same generation civic, I don't like the rear of the latest generation. Or maybe I'll try to find another 95 hatchback.

My car's too damn crappy for anyone to want to steal it.

But if it were stolen, I'd replace it with another crappy car, because I'm so damn po'.

Realistically, I would be looking for something that gets > 30 mpg city (and highway), in preparation for gas going to $10/gallon.

That was a very poor way of making such a statement then, using terms most people wouldn't, which really shouldn't me mixed/misused like that. Nobody ever describes a tread depth difference with the term "staggered sizes." It remains a fact that tire profile, tread depth, and staggered sizes are three completely different things.

Simply put, "staggered sizes" refers to tires of different manufacturer sizes, not tires of the same size with different tread depth.

I understand what you mean, but you should choose your words more selectively.

I rarely post outside of car/motorcycle forums, didn't really think about people not catching my meaning. ;)

My car hasn't been stolen, but I have been looking for something new. Since moving to Hawaii in August, I've seriously been considering getting a convertible. I currently drive a 2009 Subaru Legacy GT.

Cars I'm considering:
BMW 3 series convertible
BMW Z4
Honda S2000
Mazda Miata
Pontiac Solstice
Porsche Boxster
Porsche 911 convertible

Unfortunately selection is somewhat limited here, especially since I'm only considering cars with a manual transmission. I really think a 2 seat roadster would be fun, but ultimately the 3 series is probably the most practical of the bunch. I love the retractable hard top on the newer models as well, it's like you buy a convertible and get the coupe for free! :p

Any thoughts?
