What were you doing on it before you switched it off?

If all else fail, I'd restore it to factory condition:

Disconnect your iPod from your Mac, and power it off. Press and hold the Home button, and connect your iPod. It will enter Recovery Mode. Go to iTunes and click Restore.

Be forewarned doing so wipes out the content of your iPod.

Try downloading iNdependence and run that with the iPod plugged in. May work. If that doesn't help then you could try putting it into recovery mode as described above and the run iNdependence to boot it out of recovery. Be warned however that if it can't get it out of recovery then you will have to restore in iTunes and then you lose all of your content and jailbreak etc.
