Does anyone know if the backlight is part of this? My backlight is acting VERY odd, retaining images slightly, streaky lights grey vertical lines that come and go as the device warms up, backlight getting brighter and dimmer suddenly. I think it got wet.

Anyone know if this kit will replace a bad backlight?

If you have an iPhone 7/7+ then call Apple or go to an Apple store. You’re still in one year warranty, they’ll just fix it for you for free.

But to answer your question. Yes. The backlight is one piece with the screen. The only think you don’t get is the home button when you need to move over as well.

I was going to ask if the device got wet because vertical grey lines (they kind of shine like grey fish scales) is a symptom of water damage. There’s a chance you can get the display replace under warranty if there’s no internal signs of liquid damage. I would try getting it fixed at an Apple Store.

Having worked for Apple and replaced many, many screens, I can tell you that more often than not people who took their broken phone to be fixed at a kiosk or by themselves would damage the phone further. Also, Apple does not receive non-Apple parts; if you replace your screen, they NEED that original screen back on in order to swap the phone or the screen. Plus, it always looked like crap with some knockoff screen on it.
That’s no longer the case as long as the issue the customer is reporting is not caused by a third-party part and the issue is covered.

But it’s true, knock off screens always had poor color reproduction (blueish tints), among other issues, and made the device look like ****. I could tell them apart within a second.

You're missing the point. As I already reiterated, it has nothing to do just Using "Lower quality"parts , it has everything to do with somebody taking the initiative of making their own repairs, hence why these kits are available for a demographic of all sorts. Just Because something that you don't prefer or agree with, doesn't mean that somebody else wouldn't want to use for their own methods. To each their own.
Leave Lou alone! Haha
He means well

Why would someone "prefer" lower quality parts for more money?
Convenience Lou.

Some of us have going to the Apple store.

I've used an at home service to repair an iPhone screen.
