Do you miss the 2x zoom? How does the camera compare to your X and portrait mode?

I'm debating whether to go from the X to either the 11 Pro Max or 11. $400 more for the Max seems just not worth it.

No, I do not miss the 2x zoom at all, however I rarely used that function. The cameras on the 11 are great. The ultra wide camera is great, and night sight is great. Portrait mode works as expected. I've always purchased the most expensive phone, but figured there might be something awesome coming next year, but I didn't want to wait because my X battery was taking a dive, so the 11 was perfect.

Assuming they don't break anything in the process the only thing really compromised is the phone's water resistance and its warranty.

The water resistance wouldn't be compromised, because You can actually reseal a phone back to spec’ with new seals. I can’t speak if iIfixit can do that themselves, but Apple is trained to reseal phones at their stores.

Nice to see. The value stretch for the Pro's over this is tough to make for me. Was considering a Pro as I like the zoom, but $300 for zoom? No its not worth that much to me. To each his / her own.

I'm still curious about reception on these given how last year's struggled in lower signal areas relative to the previous Qualcomm models.

I upgraded from the XsMax to the 11 Pro Max on Verizon and the signal quality improvement in weak areas is substantial. So is the signal acquisition. The NYC subway system has LTE at each station, but with the XsMax it would frequently have difficulty acquiring the LTE signal at each subway stop. The 11 Pro Max acquires the signal each time. The same is true for exiting the subway.

The 11 has only 2 antennas instead of 4 which both the 11 Pro and the Xs phones have. Thus, it cannot run the 4x4 MIMO protocols and does not use the full extend of the Intel XMM 7660 Modem.

Thus, the 11 has weaker signal capabilities than the 11 Pro models.

Although iFixit was not explicit, this is the modem used in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro:

I’m actually curious what iFixit does with these phones once they’re completely disassembled, I mean, they _could_ ‘technically’ reassemble them, but are they really that usable given they probably would experience some hardware issues? Or are they kept for spare parts, ect?
They said in their tear down video that they send the disassembled units out as a basis for for repair guides to be created and other educational purposes. They are not given away, sold, or otherwise put back into 'phone' service.

They do sell seal kits for the other iPhones so I would imagine they can, but I doubt they have any parts at this time. I was referring to if they just slapped them back together. The phones would be essentially fine as long as they didn't drop them in water. And even then the left over adhesive would probably mostly be intact once the screen was mated with the housing again.

The iPhone 11 is supposed to be an iPhone 10s without any pro lens and definitely a bad value for the customer that bought it. The introduction of XR screen size only adds more hassle for app developer and probably the least favorite model that barely makes any sense.

I’m interested to know how I got bad value I buying an iPhone 11 that was significantly cheaper and lacking features I didn’t need.

There isn't substantial evidence that the XR is selling well.
Several media outlets and Apple themselves have repeatedly stated the Xr is the best selling model of smartphone of 2019, correct?

From the rumours posted here,

in 2018, the Xr was the #1 selling device making up just over 50% of total sales of all iPhones.

IG88 is right. if you look through MacRumours history, ALL reports from both Apple and 3rd parties have put the Xr being Apple's best selling active phone since it was launched.

Initial sales of the Xs were good and there were a lot that moved quickly, but after initial rush,t he bulk of iPhones sales shifted to the Xr.

which is likely why the Xr was rebranded the "11", and the more expensive models that sold less moved upscale to "pro"

How in the hell is it a bad value? It is significantly cheaper than the 11 Pro and is missing what? A telephoto camera, a higher resolution OLED display, and some battery?

I wonder if Apple or any other smart phone hardware maker used an ultra wide and telephto cameras to produce a wide picture via AI/ML. That way a device can have 4x Optical Zoom with two camera's vice three or more. If Apple has done this on the iPhone 11, the pro model’s differentiating factor would be OLED, casing materiais and display size plus specs.

iFixit mentioned that it sends the opened devices to training establishments.

While iPhone XR was questionably value for money compared to the XS, iPhone 11 with its lower price makes the device a little easier on the pocket book and makes the Pro pricing with a wider price gap for similar specs.

Additional promos in 2019 for the XR helped propel sales along with higher trade-in prices.

Value for money the 11 wins in 2019.

Went into the local AT&T to see the 11 and 11 Pro. I was surprised that the 11Pro 5.8 actually felt heavier than the 11. I know its not. The screen difference was barely noticeable. Blacks were obviously a little richer on the OLED.

I ultimately decided to go with the 11 128g in black, upgrading from a 6 which is going to be a huge difference. I didn't feel the screen and telephoto lens was worth an extra $400 for the pro.

I've been using a 5c for work which is on its death bed. Going to use the 6 as my work phone. Maybe in a few years when 5g becomes more of a standard I would consider getting the pro model as my main phone and using the 11 as my work phone.

I love my iPhone XR, and have really enjoyed using it for the last year. The iPhone 11 is a better value than the Xr was last year, but I am not in a big hurry to upgrade. I’ll wait a year or two.

That said, I love taking pictures, so I am happy that Apple is continuously improving the camera in the latest iPhone.

The fact that hardware wise it didn’t get the bilateral wireless charger and the pro models did get it (albeit iOS13 disables the feature) proves once again that Ming Chi Kuo got it wrong about the issue. Because he said earlier this year that all 3 models will get it, now the 11 doesn’t have the hardware to feature bilateral wireless charging but the pros do

The XR isn't all that good and not to be surprised it might not be the best selling model. Some people even taught it’s call iPhone X-Ray.

Overall, the XR or 11 substantially drop in value when every other mid-range smartphone is moving away from notch screen and most of the customer no longer view it as the best value in 2019

Why are you here? You offer nothing but negativity and the belief that somehow you know what everyone else thinks.

While you have the right to your opinion you do not have the right to try to speak for others.

An opinion based on facts carries more weight than the circular reasoning of an opinion based on opinion.

I upgraded from an iPhone X 256GB to an iPhone XS 256GB - net cost was about $25, yay craigslist and eBay! I love it, it’s a bit better in every way.

I bought my wife an iPhone 11 128GB in purple, and it’s awesome! The screen looks great, you’d never notice it’s not as high resolution unless you’re a teenager with your face up against it. The battery life is ridiculously strong, she could probably charge it every other day and be fine. The camera is a solid upgrade over my iPhone XS: more detail, way better smart HDR, night mode is insanely good, ultra wide lens is really fun. She’s incredibly happy with it, as am I.

I’m a bit jealous of her iPhone 11, but my upgrade was practically free so I’m feeling good about it. Also the iPhone XS is more pocketable, so it suits me better. I’m glad she’s got such great battery life now, she’s not at a desk as often so that’s critical for her.

There are tools available for the proprietary screws Apple is using and the glass back is a finish that most premium phones are going for now.

I just upgraded from a 6 to the 11. Huge improvement but the size is something im not sure I will get used to. With a case it feels almost 33% thicker. I agree about the 11 pro being much better in a pocket.
