Will an iPhone 5 work with this or will I need some attachment? If so which one??

go with a speaker that connects via bluetooth or aux cable. JBL flip or Jambox

I have used the iHome iP1 speakers since 2010 with iPhone 4 and then iPhone 5 (using the 30-pin to lightning adapter) and it works well.

Boomboxes are outside of my personal experience but if you can fit the small adapter I'd think it would be fine. I'm assuming that you already have the speakers and want to know if it'll work.
