Convention is usually quantity times size. 8x2 is 8 sticks of 2gigs

Yes, it can be considered the same. One caveat, sometimes the manufacturer will test the memory and try to match modules so the performance of the 2 modules in a kit is similar. While the specs of individual modules may be the same, there ARE variances, the testing/matching is done in an attempt to match modules with similar variances for best performance.

I have this kit: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Venge...M2A1600C10/dp/B0076W9Q5A/ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_t in my 2012 MBP. It has a lifetime warranty and has been working perfectly for almost 2 years. It's also SLIGHTLY faster with a lower CAS latency (10 vs. the 11 on the kit you linked).
