iJailBreak and baseband/bootloader

I've seen varied reports with some claiming that ZiPhone 2.4 downgrades the Bootloader or Baseband. Is that bad? If so, can it be put back to normal? I am hoping to use iJailBreak. Does this downgrade the bootloader or baseband?
