Hey everyone,

I received a nice graphite 466 MHz iBook and I have a copy of iLife 05. I'm wondering if there's any hack like there is with iMovie for the G4 where I can install iLife 05 on my iBook. It meets all of the requirements except for screen resolution.

Thanks!

I would imagine Pacifist would install it.
I downloaded pacifist what would the process be for installing the software using this program. Thank you.

I just have never run into this particular issue. Always wanting to learn more about my PowerPCs.
[doublepost=1501377427][/doublepost]I found a good tutorial online thank you for responding though. This is a great community.

Glad you got it figured out. Pacifist is a really cool app for getting "almost" supported apps installed when you don't want those pesky "system requirements" getting in the way. Honestly though, video editing on the 466 iBook is pretty brave undertaking. The 800x600 screen is just brutal on the clamshell iBook.

Definitely I've got to get back into the software part I've been collecting hardware wise and really need to beef up that side of my PowerPC collection. I'm looking at upgrading the screen to a 1024 x 768 from a later iBook. Love pushing the limits of older hardware.

Replace the screen would be my first tip. You might find after hacking software onto it that key buttons are now hidden offscreen and no longer accessible. It wasn't until I upgraded my screen that I could even run calibration software on it for that reason.

Do you absolutely need iLife 05? Apart from the off screen problems, it'll be painfully slow. How about an earlier version that sits with your spec better - I'm sure you can find something at macintoshgarden ?
I guess I really don't but if I can upgrade the screen and use it in a halfways decent manner I'll be happy. Just kind of exploring the limits of this machine since it's new. :)

Macintosh Garden is great for anyone reading.

Congratulations on your new iBook. I'm sure many of us would like to see a photo or two of it.

These 466MHz firewire 400 'Clamshell' ibooks are becoming more & more difficult to find. I've been following their progress for several years, and prices have definitely escalated. Having said that, imho some are advertised at crazy high prices, and who knows - perhaps they sell.
I haven't installed any version of iLife on either my Graphite or KeyLime, but have had some very pleasurable sessions using PhotoShop 7. In fact last year I showed this Clamshell to a young neice (who was a frequent user of PShop on her 2012 iMac), and she loved it - amazed at what an old-timer like this could still achieve. I've just dug out a few photos taken at the time. Whilst everyone else were fully engaged in Christmas talk and fun, she was fully concentrated for extended periods using the Clamshell - couldn't drag her away! Although it may be worth noting that the same excercise on an earlier 300 or 366GHz iBook would not be much fun in comparison.

The following is the same iBook fired up today for a quick photo-shoot.
A fully functional Graphite (or KeyLime) - if your luck's in, imho are a wonderful addition to any PPC collecction. Some Apple fans seem to have a mother-in-law reaction to the iBook Clamshell, i.e. they can't stand the sight of 'em. Fortunately I'm not in that category. Whenever I find a 'like new in box' example - and I've found two - it's like a happy honeymoon all over again. Without a m-i-l of course! ;)

Thanks so much. :) Yes it's a really nice one I'm going to have to get a new graphite Apple and stem for the back. Otherwise it's in wonderful shape.

Really looking to upgrade to a 1024X768 screen and incorporate it into my workflow somehow. Maybe through photo editing JPEG's and processing tape based video.

Really want to bring it to college this semester because the keyboard is absolutely awesome.

Here's a couple pictures of it. Loving the style of it.
