Do they even drop the price of the iLife apps? Will they go down to $49 in 4 or 6 months, for example? Might be worth it then.

Based on the one previous release of iLife: no. Although they may offer some sort of bundle upgrade price with Tiger. Personally I'm not buying iLife. I'm buying a Mac mini instead!

if not im going out and ordering ilife today!

No iLife will not be part of Tiger , as it is not part of the OS. I think people get confused because Apple bundle it with all new computers. I suggest you place your order for iLife.

If you buy a mac sometime in the next few months, Tiger and iLife will come bundled for free.

Yup, it will, and the license will be only for the machine you purchased it with. This is a form of software piracy.

If you want iLife or Tiger for a machine you currently own, go buy them. If you have multiple macines at home, buy the family pack. Apple has made it inexpensive for a family with multiple macs to upgrade all of them with the latest OS and iLife with their family packs. Support Apple. Don't support the Software Pirates.

iLife'05 will not be bundled with Tiger. Panther had old versions of everything but iTunes and did not come with iDVD. Tiger will probably come with the latest iTunes, but may come with old versions of iMovie and iPhoto. It will not come with iDVD or GarageBand - these are rather large (like a bit over 4 gigabytes between the two of them).

If you are replacing your current Mac, this is fine. If it is an additonal Mac, you need to buy licenses for your current Mac(s0 that you are keeping. Get the family pack licenses if appropriate. Don't be a software pirate.

I am thinking about a copy of iLife '05 for the iMac since I am planning on copying video from tape to DVD with a third-party burner and would like official iDVD support thereof. Improved iMovie editing helps too.

As for Tiger, I may go for either a single license (again, for the iMac) or a family pack (for 2 or 3 different Macs including the iMac and an iBook or two) dependin on how beneficial it turns out to be when it is released.

No plans to get Longhorn,, by the way. Ever.

I will get iLife 05 because of iPhoto and iDVD of course more effects and transitions are welcome with iMovie, not a big GB user but I enjoy it...

Well, remember that the benefit of the family pack is that you will be legal if you want to install Tiger on more than one of your Macs. And at a lower cost than buying seperate regular licenses for them.

Although, if I interpret what you said correctly is that you may not bother updating all your machines to Tiger. There are advantages at keeping machines at different OS versions - that being some applications may not work with Tiger for a while )or ever if the developer has gone away).

Of course there is also the advantage of keeping all of ones Macs at the same OS version - that being the uniformity of use of the Macs. And being able to install the latest updates of all the applications you use.

I expect one of the biggies that will help you make up your mind is the fact that tiger is supposed to speed up machines - like Panther is faster than Jaguar.

The iLife05 is a huge upgrade from 04.
1) iPhoto 5 looks like its a lot better than 4.
2) The scoreeditor and multiple track recording in GB is very nice!
I've been tempted to get Logic Express because GB1 didn't have a score editor

I'll buy it because of those two reasons. I never use iMovie (used premiere since version 4..) but I might get FCE.

I just bought iVideo a couple months ago for $20. It is basically just like iPhoto, but for organizing your videos. I shoudl have just waited and saved that money for this. Oh well, I am still going to order it, it will be nice to have the videos I take with my camera in the same program and in the same roll as the pictures I take.

As everyone else has said, to me, I am willing to pay the money just for the more advanced editing features in iPhoto. My dad has PhotoShop, but it is too much for my needs. I just need some basic fixing ability, and iPhoto is very straight forward and at my level.

I am looking forward to the new GarageBand too. The music notation is going to be the most important to me. I am learning the piano, so the multi track recording isn't that important to me. It will be great to fool around and have the stuff I create right there after I am done. Anyone know if you can then print the music sheets? I couldn't find anywhere on their website that you can.

The price increase sort of indicates that it won't be included with Tiger - I guess they are trying to seperate out the products.

The products have been seperate for over a year. New computers get whatever OS and iLife packages are the latest, but once you have your Mac you have to pay if you want to upgrade the OS and iLife...
