Yeah, looks don't matter as much as function (despite what Apple brainwashes people to think). FCP 2 is a fine program and it's a shame it wont run on a G5. I suggest finding someone you know who's a college student and get the FCP Suite for $699 or just take a look on bittorrent (BT). If BT isn't your thing and you can't afford the suite, then look for the first suite edition on eBay. FCP express would suit you just fine as well, but then you wont have DVD Studio Pro to work with. Good luck.:)

Thanks for your help....I will consult my friend who works for NBC, and he will be able to rip me a copy of their software. What do you mean FCE 2 doesnt work on my G5? It works fine...i think....

So you do or don't want FCP?

Of course I want it....just need time and money...

So you don't have time or money, and that is Apple's fault. I don't get the logic, but to each his own I guess. Still, not a good enough reason to accuse Apple of properly testing their software. That was absolutely absurd. You still have not given proof that they don't test their software. Besides your ranting, which could come from a wide variety of factors. PMS for instance...

First of all,

I did give evidence that their new software is sucky, because it only works 4.3% of the time...for me at least....and that is what matters right now, is the end user. What dont you get about me not having enough money to spend $1000 on more software. Steve Jobs has you all in a trance. He shows a few new features in his keynotes and then we all run out and buy the latest version, just to say we have it, when it actually is more instable than the previous version. The software SHOULD work, thats why I paid MONEY for it. I agree that I shouldnt have accused them of not testing their software at all, but I am EXTREMELY frustrated right now, and they probably didnt test their software to the fullest extent.

BTW, your jokes are not funny

Dude, just render the files as a disc image. I've had the same trouble several times when trying to burn straight to DVD. But whenever I make a disc image, it works every time. Plus once it's done, you don't have to open iDVD to burn another disc.

I'll jump in late on this but...if you made one dvd that worked great for you with iDVD then just take that one good dvd and make a direct copy of it using Toast 6 or Toast 7 and save yourself time and grief with all of this. That is if I read this post right you did get at least one good dvd right?
Let me know and hope this helps :)

I thought you said FCP 2, not FCE 2. For FCP 2 you would have to run it in classic, and that can't be done on G5s from what I hear.

Please, just relax. Think about something: most people that have replied this topic are saying that iDVD has worked perfectly for them. You're saying that it never works for YOU. In your case iDVD never works right. Consider the option that the problem might be with your DVDs or your DVD writer or any other thing that might not be related to iDVD.

Now you should start making smart decisions instead of thinking of buying a $999 software (what if that doesn't fix the problem). Try to determine what causes the problem. Use toast or anything similar and burn any random data (maybe do some back-ups). This way you could determine if the problem is with the DVD burner.

Try to think about what was different with that first DVD that worked? Was it the same brand as all the other DVDs? Did you change anything in the movie or iDVD after burning the DVD that worked?

Don't becoming insane, that happened to my mother when Microsoft vanished her Power Point presentation (in that case it was a known bug).
