I am currently running Illustrator CS2 on my MacBook Pro, well I am attempting to anyway. The thing is, the program never actually starts. I get the splash screen and all the loading messages, but when all that stuff is a actually loaded, the program just quits. I was wondering if anyone out there that was also running Illustrator CS2 and is familiar with the mac utility Activity Monitor could send me their processes log of what happens when they run Illustrator so i can compare my processes to see if and when something goes wrong during the start up of my copy. And before anyone asks, yes I am running a legit copy of illustrator. I have a screen cap of what actually happens when i try to open it, and I will post it as soon as i can get the video converted from flash (.swf) to .mov

CS2 Illustrator problems

Just wanting to know if you solved this problem. I just started having the same issue, running on my Intel iMac. I've had the software running on this machine without problems before.
I now know it's not a virus but might be a font conflict issue (I run Suitcase. I wanted to compare notes to see if you've figured yours out.

CS2 Keyboard shortcut problem

I have CS2 installed on a Mac Book (OSX 10.5.5). Everything works fine EXCEPT I cannot use the keyboard 'shortcuts' such as Save (apple S) etc etc.

TOTALLY annoying.

I have uninstalled and re-installed and even verified that the actual key is not the problem. This problem only occures in CS2. Not in any other program.

Any clues?

just start the program with no file... the will be ok soon for two times.. alway face this problem...

Illustrator CS2 just quit on me - HELP PLEASE

Adobe support says it is too old of a program and they don't do support for it any more. What a bunch of BULL!
Please - anyone out there - I need help. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program. I'm running this on a MAC OSX and it has run fine for years. Nothing changed on my computer - I just went to open a file and it won't open. I have tried to open illustrator first rather than click on a file. Either way it doesn't work. HELP me if you can. Thanks

Did you update OSX recently? I thought I read somewhere that older versions of Adobe's software won't run on the newest OSX, Snow Leopard 10.6.

You can always try trashing the preferences too.

I haven't updated from the OSX 10.4.11 and have been running the programs fine until this week. I can try trashing them from preferences. and then reloading. I'll let you know if this works. Thanks for your input. Karen

Illustrator hangs

I have, as of yesterday experienced exactly the same problem and have been through the whole list of suggestions, removing prefs, complete reinstall etc.
The only change in my system was installing the Acrobat 8 update over the past week so I suspect that might be the cause, have had something similar in the past. I am currently awaiting a return call from a "processional" support company so I'll post any info relevant shortly.

My CS2 was loading fine, and still does on osx 10.4.11. However I go to open a file and see a blank screen. Nothing there, but says that the file is open:eek:.
But could see from the file that it was open; what I do and I think there is a bug in the programme is go to full screen mode (pictured bottom right) and the thin toolbar opens, so can maximize the screen by clicking green + sign. This happens all the time with mine .
Illustrator has it's own weird hotkeys and I customized mine in settings :).

Sadly I cant get that far. When I attempt to open illustrator I get the splash screen and thats where it hangs up.
I have been using it with virtually no problems for a year or two until last week. I am still guessing it is related to the Acrobat update. My tech support can only suggest a full removal of all CS2 files for all applications and starting over - Great!

Yeah, that's probably the best way to go, assuming you've done all the other Mac voodoo:

1. Trash your Illustrator preference file, and restart.
2. Shut down, remove your battery, hold down the power button for five seconds, put battery back in and Start up.
3. Restart, before the chime sounds, hold down Command-Option-R-P until you hear the startup chime twice, release keys to continue startup.
4. Install Maintidget from giantmike.com and run all three scripts. Restart.
5. Put your Mac OS X Install DVD into the drive and restart, holding down the "C" key until you see the grey Apple icon. Select English at the prompt, then open Disk Utility. Repair Disk and Repair Permissions. Quit Disk Utility and restart.
6. Run Software Update.

There is an issue with Acrobat 8.2 update and CS2 InDesign, I was not aware that Illustrator was also a problem. The issue is related to not recognizing the serial key. When launching InDesign it asks for the key. You key in your valid key, it says it's not valid.

There is a fix published by Adobe on their site which fixes the issue.
It may be worth looking into in case a similar thing occurs with AI.

One other fault that I have experienced some time ago was a strange bug within the whole CS suite. Each time I tried to start a CS app, it started to launch, got some way through the splash screen then closed down again. This affected all CS apps except Acrobat Pro (which I think at that point was not a proper integrated CS app anyway).

I worked out it was related to in installation of my HP printer driver software. Basically when the driver was installed, it reset the time zone of the Mac to 'Cardiff'. Now it turned out that this was already a known fault with CS2 in that if the time zone was set to Cardiff the suite couldn't launch. Crazy but true. Changing the time zone to London (or any other) cured the problem.

Perhaps neither related to your issue but proves it can be something completely strange.

CS2 Won't Start Up?

Can anybody offer some advice on getting my CS2 illustator to start up?
I've never had any problems with this before, it looks like it's getting ready to open and it goes into "Adobe IllustratorCS2 (not responding)?

What do I need to do? ...HELP?

Same Thing happened to me today. I used the program in the last few days but today it won't launch. The only thing I've done is rant an Itunes updater.

Suggestions? help?

The advice I was given by a Mac support company worked although it took a little while.
I had to reinstall the whole CS2 suite but first I had to manually remove a number of files and folders. There is a guide/list at the following:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/331/331301.html

You need to delete the folders etc listed then reinstall then all is well again:)

Thank You Ciderbob guy! I am going to try it now!

I found another easy fix to this problem. Follow this link: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/534/cpsid_53468.html

It was quick and easy. Thank goodness it's fixed... The Illustrator not opening problem first happened on my Imac (after the Acrobat update) so my work-around was to email myself the Illustrator files, open them on my laptop, then email them back to myself. At least I was able to get my work out that way for a couple days. THEN... I updated Acrobat on my laptop not realizing that was the problem. Anyway, now all it good with my world.

I have a similar problem!

UPDATE: Fixed! Thanks Mardy, for your post and link. Somehow I didn't see it before I posted my "similar experience". Whew, so thankful it's fixed.

As of an hour ago, I'm experiencing exactly the same problem and have been through the whole list of suggestions, except reinstalling. I hope I don't have to do this, as I'm in the middle of a deadline.

The only change that happened was installing the Adobe Updater update also an hour ago. It needed to quit Photoshop, Illustrator etc, but said it wasn't able to close Illustrator, and I needed to do it manually. So I did. The thing supposedly updated fine. Now, I can't get Illustrator to work, AND InDesign is asking me for my registration. Something weird is happening with this update I think. I am also waiting for a response from Adobe. I fear they won't support me because I'm using CS2, but this recent Updater thing seems to be what messed it up, so I feel they should support me.

Illustrator CS2 won't start

today i have experienced this problem for the first time after using Illustrator for years and guess what- after downloading an update for adobe Reader!
tried all the suggestions I could find, including reinstalling, but nothing worked. Before I followed the link given by mardy however, I trashed Adobe Reader (8.2 I think) and downloaded an earlier version from the Adobe website.
Illustrator now works perfectly; for my purposes the PDF facility is fine and the solution was very quick. I've still kept mardy's link though....

Had same problem, just solved it

It was the Acrobat 8.2 thing. Glad I found this solution, I already manually uninstalled then reinstalled CS2 Suite and got Illustrator to work (took ages) but on opening it again today my heart sank as I got the same old problem, ie hanging at startup. The Adobe download solution worked in 30 sreconds - phew! Thanks for the tip, guys!
