I'm makng what is essentially a donut shape and I have the outer circle draw and the smaller one is on top. How do I delete the inner circle from the bottom layer?

Or is it possible to draw a donut shape?

Draw then select your two circles,

Then go to "Object/Compound path/Make compound path"

Presto! a donut or Taurus.

open your pathfinder palette (window/pathfinder).. it's got add, subtract, divide, intersect, etc.

But remember, the top options in that palette are reversible (until the Expand button is clicked), the bottom ones are not. Well, except for the undo levels anyway.
