    As I create an object, I am unable to use the select tool in order to rotate the object or reshape it (as shown in the left image). Instead, the objects look as if they were selected by the Direct Selection Tool [white arrow] (as shown in right image). I have never had this problem before and I am confused as to what to do!
    I am working on a design that NEEDS to be completed soon, for I need to present something to my client.

    Thanks for all the help and guidance in this pressing matter!!!

    After a quick bit of experimentation, two things replicate this effect for me:

    1) Holding down [CMD] with the Selection tool already active toggles it to the Direct Selection tool

    2) Hitting [CMD]-[SHIFT]-B hides the bounding box ... is it possible you've hit this key combo by accident? If so, try hitting it again and the bounding box should come back ...

    Hope one of those helps!

    Cheers

    What Jim said.

    Your bounding box is hidden.

    Command+Shift+B will bring it back.

    Or, View->Show Bounding Box.

    (I do this all the time when I try to select text and bold it with ID's keyboard commands.)

    ive done this in the past
    VERY annoying until you work out the keystroke you accidentally did to disable it!

    Dang it man! yes, yes it was the bounding box that I had made hidden. You see the image is rather larger than the usual 8.5 x 11 format and blah blah blah.....I was Do' enough to hide it by sheer moronicity!
    But thanks to all your great expertise I feel less of an eedeeot and more confident to kick my own butt next time I make such a mistake!
