Some of my favourites,

Guiness... Thick black Irish stout, full of iron, it's a meal in a glass

Coors... Beautifully crisp and tasty Canadian Lager/Beer

Jim Beam... No nonsense bourbon whisky

Pear Cider... Sooo good, any brand

Oh and congratulations, Happy Birthday...!!!

Rich.

Thanks for that! I've always wondered how Coors compares to Bud Light (ugh) and others. I didn't know it was Canadian. I'll try Jim Bean today.

Actually, if you're willing to pay a bit of a premium, Tequila can be pretty smooth. It comes in different grades (silver, gold and I forget the rest). The really nice stuff tastes just like water. You could skull glasses of it if you wanted (not recommended). I agree though, most brands of Tequila are a bit harsh. :eek:

What is a Gold or higher rated tequila that "tastes like water"? I'd like to try that.

And once you've tried various alcoholic drinks and want to try something different... look up on absinthe. I will say no more. :D

I'll try that soon. I remember watching Moulin Rouge for the first time and wanting to try this absinthe. I'll look for it today.:D

Nothing says birthday like dirty grey goose martinis.

It's not legal to sell in the US, so if you're it the US (and I take it you are, since otherwise 21 wouldn't mean anything), then you're not going to find it.

You can order it online, iirc. There were some threads on a while back. :)

It isn't Canadian. It's American beer, and American beer is like screwing in a canoe.

I'll recommend the following;

Mixed drinks;
a) mix of gin and 7UP/ Sprite,
b) spiced rum and coke

Shooters;
Sambuca

Beer;
Moosehead

I'm going to Europe this summer where Absinthe is legal (and I will be too).

Beer= Whitebread pale ale.

Tequila= drinking battery acid that leaves you with a f*cked up headache.

Coors= Only if you have no money for good beer.

There are some great American microbreweries (we have the most in the country here in Portland), just stay away from Bud light and MGD and PBR (unless, again, you have no money)

Good question. An ol' girlfriend of mine was a bar chick an she always bought me these really nice Tequilas that tasted like water. I've never actually ordered one myself though. Most places (in Sydney at least) don't stock it but specialist Tequila bars will know.

I'll take it onboard as a personal project to find out tonight. :cool:

Jack and coke... whiskey gives the best, happiest drunk. I don't recommend gin and tonics if you plan to drink a lot. Sugar tends to make your hangover worse. Oh, and drink light beer after the first few - you don't wanna end up puking like 2 hours in. You will have to refuse some shots from people. They'll get over it.

Oh yeah, I'm drunk from irish car bombs, they're awesome. Try a few! Oh yeah! And I got some sporting events tomorrow! Looking forward to playing hangover, and there's a party tomorrow night where I'll get even more drunk! OH YEAH GOTTA LOVE THE GREEK WORLD!

If you're not sure you really like the taste of alcohol (let's face it, it's an aquired taste), then you might want to get a "mojito" (pronounced: Moe-Hee-Toe). It's rum, simple syrup, and chopped/crushed mint.

Mojitos are great, but I like mine with a wedge of lime in it too. :)

Happy birthday!

Don't drink all you can drink, I mean, YAY! You can drink alcohol! w00t but... alcohol doesn't taste that great (I've only had a sip of beer and adults have told me that it just doesn't taste that good) and what's so good about alcohol, really? I mean.. you get hangovers, you get drunk, possibly causing a death with irresponsible driving. I just think alcohol is... stupid. But hey, that's me. :eek:

that is a big day being 21 :p but dont get too drunk, you wouldnt even know what hit you :p

Ok, so slightly more legal than the US. Wormwood dosen't actually make you go insane. Wired had an article about it a few months ago. There was a guy who scientifically reverse engeneered absinthe from a 200 year old bottle and perfectly recreated it, and in the process he found that wormwood doesn't make you crazy. In any case, Europe here I come!

congratulations!

have a nice, cold pint of magner's irish cider. my current favourite! i kind of remember when i turned 18....... ohhh, yes. many, many drinks:D

THIS POST ASKS YOU TO DRINK RESPONSIBLY, AND DOES NOT RECOMMEND EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES. :D

Wikipedia article on Absinthe said:
United States

According to US Customs, "The importation of Absinthe and any other liquors or liqueurs that contain Artemisia absinthium is prohibited."[11] This runs contrary to FDA regulations which allows Artemisia species in food and drink as long as the finished product is thujone free.

Foods or beverages that contain Artemisia species, white cedar, oak moss, tansy or Yarrow must be thujone free.[12] Other herbs that contain thujone have no restrictions. For example, sage and sage oil (which can be 50%+ thujone) are on the FDA's list of Substances generally recognized as safe.[13]

The prevailing consensus of interpretation of United States law among American absinthe connoisseurs is that:

* It is probably illegal to sell items meant for human consumption which contain thujone derived from Artemisia species. This derives from an FDA regulation (as opposed to a DEA regulation).
* It is probably illegal for someone outside the country to sell such a product to a citizen living in the US, given that customs regulations specifically forbid the importation of "absinthe."
* It is probably legal to purchase such a product for personal use in the US.
* Absinthe can be and occasionally is seized by United States Customs, if it appears to be for human consumption.

A faux-absinthe liqueur called Absente, made with southern wormwood (Artemisia abrotanum) instead of regular wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), is sold legally in the United States and doesn't contain thujone.

So can I or can't I buy this stuff from a UK store and have it shipped to my home in the US?:confused:

Technically, it's illegal to do so. Absinthe is illegal until the moment it comes into your possession, then as long as you don't resell it, it's legal.

However, absinthe get through customs with no problems... most of the time. So you'll likely have no problems ordering absinthe from Europe. And even if they confiscate the absinthe at customs, nothing'll happen to you, the only thing you lose is the money you paid for it.
