So today i stupidly dropped my iphone, luckily it was in it's case so the screen didnt break. the problem is the power button got jammed and it was in the pressed position and the phone kept restarting itself. i brought it into the apple store expecting some ridiculous repair cost and thinking that i just screwed myself out of an iphone. i went to the genius bar and told him the honest story of what happened. he typed in the serial number and said "ok well it's been under a year so you still have applecare, when was the last time you backed up your phone?" i told him 2 days ago and he said "ok i'm gonna go ahead and give you a new one". i was shocked, i told him i broke my phone and its totally my fault, and i promptly got a new one. thats just great.

Its rare, but depending on your genius, sometimes you might get stuff replaced even when it was your fault. I once had my iPod replaced, out of warranty, after telling them that it was my fault the screen cracked.

You are in the .899 % that is lucky.

I know a countless amount of people that have been turned down.
Just remember one act of kindness does not signify a repeat in the future.

I have dealt with apple care and for the most part they mediocre at best.

But no act like this ever escapes the internet.

Meh, they don't cost Apple that much to produce anyway.

But say if it were a MacBook you accidentally damaged, and they replaced it, then that would be truly amazing.

It cost's apple $174.33 to make each iphone 3G ( and $227 for the first generation iPhone )

What do you think the phones are made of, Pixie Dust ?

That would be really weird. lol Not sure if I would buy it or not. :D

And wouldn't you think that they would have given him a 3G since they are cheaper to make. And I always thought that if you got something replaced at Apple they gave you the current model; I mean that's how they are with computers anyways.

Yup, when I lie my nose grows....:p:p:p:p:p

Congrats OP, but aren't you due for a brand new 3G?

in all honesty, the 3g didnt have enough new features to convince me to upgrade and pay for a more expensive data plan. but ill definitely be getting the next one when it comes out in june, only 2 months away, i think i can wait it out.

with computers its a bit difficult to keep a bunch of the old models in the back in case someone needs a replacement. there has only been one previous generation iphone, and theyre a lot smaller than computers, so im sure they have lots of first generation iphones laying around in the back.
