while WWDC will be software heavy I will not be surprised if the iPad Pro gets updated at or same day (even if there's no mention in the keynote). why? back to school. they are really pushing iPads as a laptop for those that don't really actually need a laptop. and with iTunes U etc they will want it prime for the kiddies using grad money to get ready for college

And I'm willing to bet my ex-wife's kidneys for this.:p

Look at the rumors, no iPads. So for those on the fence, just hit that BUY button.:D

And I for one agree with you. Look at the stacking circumstantial eveidence.

- Not a peep of a rumor or leak. Not even from a case maker.
- Production halted by TSMC for all 10nm CPUs (so who’s making the A11X ? I don’t want an Apple CPU not made by TSMC.) I lived through the whole was your CPU made by Samsung or TSMC A7 fiasco.
- No new iPad Pro But new MacBooks at iPad Pro Prices will make people buy MacBooks
- Not a word from Ming-Chi Kuo the analyst for KGI Securites who paid or pays factory workers for leaks and details not a word.
- A trend among Tablet or iPad owners to keep devices longer. What can my 2 yr old 9.7” Pro not do that a 2017 10.5” Can. Nothing. There’s zero point to a yearly upgrade cycle. The iPad Air 2 lasted 18+ months this without a refresh the iPad Pro 9.7” lasted 15 months. Before the 10.5” was launched.
- No big Sales, right before a new release Best Buy/ Target/ Walmart is Given Word to cut prices by $150 to $200 on Existing Models to clear out the retail channel that hasn’t happened yet.

Cool! I'm glad a lot of people understand that in this WWDC we wont see the new iPads yet. No dashed hopes. A few weeks ago there were a lot of posts that had unrealistic dreams about seeing new iPad Pros this June so its good to see a lot of realistic observers in this thread.

My guess is, Apple will go straight to Micro LED screens for the next iPad iteration so next year would be my guess. I hope its the first fiscal quarter. This fall will still be the annual iPhone period.

The Pro's have great speed, screens, weight, battery and apps, the standard iPad has a solid price. In terms of hardware I'm not sure many people are crying out for anything to do with a new iPad. Smaller bezels and Face ID won't shift new iPad hardware, people are on an upgrade cycle of 4-6 years with an iPad anyway. I really hope this WWDC is the one where the Mac line-up gets back on track - The keyboard issues, upgraded processors (iPad Pro benches more than the Macbook Pro!), upgraded screens on some models, ports, general reliability, Mac Mini neglect, Mac OS neglect and pricing.

No new iPads as Apple will release the declarative UI so that developers can make their apps ‘notch’ ready for the Fall.

At that point, loads of different phones (and the iPad Pro) with differing screen sizes will be launched, that include the next gen Face ID component (it’ll be smaller).

As far as Macs go:

iMacs
Almost certainly. Processor upgrades & the T2, no new case design.

MBP
Only if Apple redesigns the enclosure to fit in a less disastrously received keyboard. I’d if does, processor upgrades and the T2. I think that the touchbar will be ditched.

MB
Nope. No new processors yet from Intel.

Mac Mini
I predict we’ll see an ARM version of the mini as a dev box (in its existing design - new design for consumers).

WWDC 2018 feels a little too early for this so I’m calling it as a March 2019 thing with an announcement that marzipan will be introduced at WWDC 19.

Mac Pro
Late 2019. I think that this is going to be a massive shock in that it’s going to be fully ARM when it does launch. And it’s going to be very very fast.

Apart from last year you where he said he expected new ipp's to use FaceId...

Huh? If there is a new iPad in the works then June could be when they announce it with a potential September or so release date.

Not sure I've seen cases where retailers do a massive preemptive sales before any announcements...

I've said as much in other threads, I think apple is going to focus on the Mac this year, it seems the MBP is getting some negative press of late and apple may want to counter that. Then there's the fact that they promised a new Mac Pro and people are still waiting

That’s irrelevant if better silicon is availible Apple wants it in their devices. Case in point MacBooks

I double concur with your concurement. But the real question is does anybody else concur?
Nope Apple couldn’t need new hardware more then ever now bewtween the MacBook Pro keyboard issues and iMac Pro support snafus. Apple needs some positive changes more then here’s are new software. They need to show customers and journalists alike that they see these issues and are taking steps to address them.

I suspect that the next gen Face ID module has been redesigned (to be be smaller, at the very least) and that the A12 & A12X are required for this.

And as I mentioned in another post on this thread, I suspect that you need a serious amount of power to make the iPhone X UX work lag free with no janky behaviour on the iPad Pro 12 inch.

So again, that’s another reason why we’re not seeing an A11.

In many ways, I think we’ll look back at the X and A11 as being prototypes and the models in 2018 will be the ones where the new direction of the iPhone really take flight.

You are assuming that Apple wants to keep the macOS device lines appealing to consumers. That's a reasonable assumption. And your reason for why you think Apple should showcase new hardware at WWDC is compelling.

I'm more cynical. I think this is Apple simply "cashing out" on their past reputation for desktop computing. Or maybe it is some PsyOps program. I watched the "official" Apple video for how to blow dust out of the new keyboards and thought, "this can't be for real. It has to be satire, like the Onion". Nope, legit.

WWDC seems a good time to announce some new Macs (back to school, developer/pro focus, etc), and more consumer focus stuff (iDevices) to be announce in September or later (holiday buying season).

I really want whatever next version of macOS and iOS to be close to bullet proof on GM release. I'm tired of Apple having stupid bugs on GM releases (iOS11). Craig should make less jokes. Jokes don't fix bugs.

I thought about this in the shower, where I do my best thinking. Here's my shower insight o_O

Apple's going to be releasing some great $hi^ @ WWDC. I'm thinking upgraded MBPs and Ipad pros. Why?
The event is being streamed by apple. They released the new ipad with pencil support in an event that wasn't streamed. The world will be watching this one so assuming they have some stream worthy products isn't so hard to believe.

I'm telling ya, great $hi^!

Shower insight.
You're welcome.

^ THIS... good gracious... this. All that bean counting and their poor attempts to expand their services portfolio are coming back to bite them in the core. Now more than ever we need everything but pits, :apple:.

The 2018 iPad just got a pencil update which probably means the OP is correct in no new iPads until later this year, if that.

As far as Macs, I hope they got their stuff together. It's getting ridiculous already.
