They released a paid version of their IM app for the iPhone/iPod touch.

They claim they have "IM Push" mode. They even trademarked the "IM Push" term :p

It basically does the same thing as Beejive. It keeps you connected and sends you an email if someone is talking to you. The difference is that your contact will then receive an instant message informing him that you're in 'IM Push' mode and that you'll reply as soon as you can.

What you can also do is reply directly by email and they'll convert it into an instant message reply.

This is the info on their page:

    More about IM Push™ mode
    For iPhone / iPod Touch
    v. 1.5
    Award-winning IM+® All-in-One Messenger for chats within AIM®/iChat, MSN®/Windows Live™ Messenger, Yahoo!®, ICQ®, Jabber®, Google Talk™ and MySpaceIM for iPhone/iPod Touch.
Full version with IM+ Push mode is available on App Store now! Look in Social Networkig for IM+.

    9.99$

The well-known problem with instant messengers on iPhone is that applications are not running in a background. Incoming call can interrupt your chatting and few messages can be lost.
Imagine staying on-line and message exchange without background application running. Now it is possible with IM+ Push™ mode on iPhone.
Upon exiting IM+, you are automatically switching to IM Push™ mode if appropriate settings were indicated. In this mode, IM+ on your mobile device is not running to save your time and the precious battery life.
In IM Push™ mode you remain online in all IM services, and continue receiving IMs as e-mails pushed to your smartphone mailbox.
Your replies will be converted to instant messages and will be delivered back to your contact.

What do you guys think? 10 bucks is too much, in my opinion!

Please don't start that again just like we have had with BeejiveIM! $10 would barely by you just a month's worth of personal shared web hosting, it is nothing compared to what the server costs for such an application would be and it is just a one time fee!

I understand that 10 dollars might not be a lot. It's just my opinion, that's all. I paid for both Beejive and MobileChat.

The app is pretty much the same as the free app except the added 'push' feature. I also understand that they have to pay for server maintenance, etc. Making it a paid app is extremely logical but that's not what I'm referring to.

You think the app will be successful for that price?

Ask them in a month. Then you'll know if it's successful, no guessing needed.

I figured this was going to come out when IM+ was renamed to IM+ Lite yesterday.

I thought it had been renamed as such a few revisions ago.

Anyway, I'm not going to jump at any of the paid IM clients until Apple actually get the true push up and running. Then I'll take a closer look and see how they all perform.

Why would anyone buy this over beejive? Beejive is far superior... and heck, its only 5 more.

There's no shortage of people that piss and moan over 99 cents. I don't think it's the money as much as the need. Anyone who actually needs reliable IM already has Beejive. Anyone who whined about the price of Beejive is also going to whine about the price of IM+. It'll be interesting to see where this app stands in a month or two.

I never whined about the price of Beejive. I've tried IM+ (now the lite version) before and didn't like it at all, even though it was free. I thought, and still think, Palringo is the best free IM client in the app store.

The UI is just not my thing, I guess. That's why I bought Beejive. I love their UI and the reliability although they still need to improve a lot. I get spam constantly! A little too much, actually! Makes me not want to use it sometimes or at least keep myself offline all day long.

Ah, maybe so. I hadn't paid it any attention for a while.

I didn't say YOU whined about the price, just that there's plenty of people who did. And still do. As if Beejive owes them something. Personally, I thought IM+ was the best app available for Windows Mobile a couple of years ago but something happened and the quality of the app suffered. I had used Beejive for some time on my Blackberry and when it became available for Windows Mobile, it was a no brainer. Same with iPhone.

Per the spam with Beejive, I wrote to their customer support a few days ago after waking up one morning to a ton of it, all through MSN. They claimed there was an update due out that would address the problem and sure enough, there was an update a few days ago. Maybe it's coincidence but I haven't had a single problem since installing it and I use the app quite a bit.

Really??? I only recently started getting spammed like crazy when that update was released

I also went to their forum and saw an entry about the same thing, so I'm assuming they're going to work on that and fix it. I would like an option in the settings menu sort of what Palringo has, if you're familiar with it.

Anyway, back on topic. I was extremely tempted to get IM+ back in the non 2.0 days when it was a web app and you had to pay to use it. To be honest, I might reconsider purchasing the app if they included Skype support. That would be great! Would compete with Fring :)

Now that you mention it, for what it's worth, I also have started getting a massive amount of spam since the latest version of Beejive was released. I rarely had the issue before their latest version, perhaps it is all just a coincidence.
