The new iTunes is giving me fits.

I have a very big library and no interest in streaming or storing on the cloud -- I fear a bad combo in Apple Land!

My Mac is old but I have lots of RAM

It seems that when I have anything to do with the iTunes database -- adding a song, searching, switching from Album view to Song view, ... -- it can take a few minutes (MINUTES!) with the spinning beach ball. And not infrequently the thing just hangs and I have to force quit.

Trying to figure out how to go back to 12.1 (which wasn't all that great but at least worked) seems like a huge crapshoot.

What do you think the chances are that Apple will fix?

What alternatives do people use instead of iTunes?

Any other advice? / sympathy? ...
