Is there a good time to buy? I know now is the worst time to buy an iPhone due to the new models in September. What's the deal with iPads? Looking to only spend about $500. I don't care to have every single feature.

Then get the iPad Air. Or if you can find the iPad Pro 10.5.

Is now a good time to buy, or do iPads come out in September like iPhones?

Some people say they will. I am in the camp of no they won’t. They don’t follow the iPhone timeline. The iPad Pro was updated in October 2018, June 2017, 2016 for the 9.7 and 2015 for the 12.9. I don’t think the pros will be updated but perhaps the iPad will.

The iPad Air was released in 2019 along with the mini 5

The “iPad” was released in March 2018.

I would wait if you want to get the cheapest iPad since that’s rumored to be a 10.2 screen and has the oldest processor. You can find pretty good deals on some now.

Since we are so awfully close to the next iPad release, maybe wait and see how the “new” iPad 10.2” will offer before making a decision. $500 is enough to get a decent iPad that lasts long.

We might see a new “iPad” but that’s it. If you want the larger 10.5 screen then I would just go for the Air now if there’s a good sale on it. Or find a good deal on an 10.5 Pro. Otherwise I would wait if you might be interested in a new 9.7 or the 10.2

Purely to stream games while at work. I don't play games or do anything camera related. Just stream NFL, mlb and f1

The 3rd Gen iPad Pros will be overkill for that purpose, the main consideration is screen size and perhaps speakers. For portability and carrying to work, the Mini 5 would be best but the 7.9” screen might be too much of a compromise for you (though I personally don’t mind it for streaming content.)

The 9.7” iPad is the one most likely to be updated soonest, to a 10.2” screen if speculation turns out to be correct. The current iPad’s processor is 2 generations behind the Air/Mini which will mean it losing app support sooner ultimately.

The Air has the 10.5” screen but only two speakers, while the 2nd Gen Pros have 4 if you were wanting better speakers within your budget (beware the risk of the white spot issue though.)

Is the 10.5 pro considered 2nd gen?

It seems the 10.5 pro is the best value for me, and should last 4 years or so

Most likely, Apple will reveal their next iPads 2 weeks from today. Wait until then to make decisions... that is what I am doing. If you can't wait, get the latest 10.5 inch air. The 10.5 Air is overall better than the 10.5 pro in almost every way except for speakers.

I'm sold on the pro, but now I feel like the $800 11 is my best bet. It feels weird paying good money for a 2017 iPad 10.5 pro.

Does anyone price match if the price drops within a certain time? I'm 100% set on the 11 pro after some research. I'd like to buy it today, but if it will drop $100 in the coming weeks I might as well wait.

Lol, it's same price now at Amazon. That's actually not the lowest price it's ever gone. Iirc, it was $600 at one point with sale price plus edu discount.

And looks like 1TB WiFi 11" is $400 off. Too bad it's not the LTE version.
