Just bought an Apple refurbished 14" MBP M2 a week ago and I have to say that I'm really enjoying it. Tried the 15" MBA but the configuration I wanted was just a tad cheaper than a loaded MBP M2, so I went with the Pro. Not only that, for me the "15 MBA was immense on my lap. To my mind, the 14" MBP is a winner. What a satisfying machine. Fits me like a glove.

yeah I am in the same position, trying to decide between the 15 Air and 14 MBP M2 (due to sales!)... I like a good screen prefer size of 15, but there is more to a laptop. both similar in price!

What configurations did you have that got them price-wise close to each other?
I have a 14 M1 and am likely to switch to the new 15 MBA. I don't know about the M2 but there is a significant differnces in battery life. To me, the screen and speaker differences are minimal.

i wonder how much you paid, since they are going for 1750 at costco and walmart brand new.

yeah i had similar reaction with the 15, on desk its fine, but its rather huge otherwise, the 14inch is a very sweet spot if you find the 13 to be tad small.

the 14 Pro is 1750 at Costco??

I was deciding between the 15" Air and 14" Pro and ended up going with the exact spec the OP got (16GB/1TB/12CPU/19GPU). I LOVE this machine. It is definitely way more than I need, but my Apple computers tend to go for about 10 years (5 as a primary device and another 5 in some sort of hand-me-down fashion). The 15" Air is an awesome computer, but I think the 14" size is the sweet spot and I like having the extra power for some games and Lightroom.

I am not seeing that at Costco. However, Best Buy does have the base 14" Pro for $1799. In my mind, it makes an upgraded 15" Air a tough sell. You have to really want the screen sizes, 3 ounces less weight, and/or be on a strict budget.

So I was able to use my sons college discount at get a new M2 14" at apple for $1800 USD plus you get a $150 gift card, not bad. Having had the 15" MBA for a few days, this machine is just much nicer.
-not sure why but the the text is just more clear to read on the 14, whereas on the 15 air it seems just slightly fuzzy not a huge deal
-speakers are killer
-keyboard is MUCH better
-System is all around faster

Very glad I switched over!

Good deal! Text is crisper due to higher ppi on the 14.

Unfortunately they only ever stock the base model at that good price, if you need 1TB or 32GiB or anything like that the "Apple tax" weighs in heavy. I ended up paying about $550 just for an additional 16GiB last year, otherwise the base model was $1599 at Best Buy. Refurb is an option but in contrast to iPhones and iPads the Macbook refurbs do not receive a brand new housing and battery so the entire device is used, even if cleaned perfectly.

Apple is running their annual back to school deals from now through October 2. So that base 14" Pro sells for $1849, but includes a $150 gift card.

Hi Everyone,
New member with another bit of advice.
I'm contemplating a Macbook Pro 16" but wondering if 16gb would be enough, for the next 5 years. Basic video editing in Resolve, hobby coding and general use. Built in SD Card makes up for 512GB of storage. Want something to replace my Mac Mini 2018 and Macbook Pro 2017 in one purchase.
