I honestly think the UI isn't done in a few spots. The clock app being one of them.
The clock app might be the worst thing about the entire OS. So completely unintuitive. It took me a full minute of staring at the alarm screen to figure out what the hell I was supposed to do. The plus sign to add an alarm is practically subliminal.

I prefer the picture on the right. It's labelled Newsstand I don't need it to look like a bookshelf.
Why stop there then? Why have the book icons? Why not just have a grey box with text in it saying "The New Yorker" or "The New York Times"?
If there is one app I hate it has got to be newsstand the most pointless app ever.
Because that would take away from the content. The app isn't supposed to take precedence over the content. That's why design is so minimalistic in iOS 7. It lets you focus on your content.
Who actually uses the clock app?

iOS 7 looks half done with all of the white empty space.
Out of all the design issues with iOS 7, you used this for your example? All your comparison here shows is how ugly the old newsstand was.
Please explain how it was ugly. Do you recoil in horror when you see a real bookshelf? I don't understand the hatred of skeuomorphism to be honest. I understand a graphical interface doesn't have to look like the real life counterpart but what precisely makes it so horrible?
