Apple is more than overdue to update this display, and according to Apple, the thin iMac display has 70% less glare, has more brightness, etc., than the old display. Plus, presumably any new monitor will have USB 3 and a Thunderbolt 2 controller. USB 3 is huge if you use the monitor as a hub because it is so much faster than USB 2 for backup drives, etc.
Ever since supply dropping was noted in June 2013 (and then reversed), I've been following the supply of Thunderbolt displays. For the past week or so, it has been dropping at several retailers.
MacMall has been out for a while.
Amazon ran out today.
Amazon was selling through J&R Electronics, so they might be out now too.
Others without naming them are out now as well.
MacConnection and B&H Photo and Best Buy all have stock.

I really hope we get an update. This update is long overdue. I don't want or need 4k, I just want an updated display.

Me too. Waiting for this...

It's also worth noting that the link to the Apple 27 inch Cinema Display is gone on the Apple online store, and it appears you cannot buy it as well :) This link is on the Thunderbolt Display's store page, and it seems crazy Apple would forget to remove this link. This could really mean the refresh is imminent, and fuel for the rumor fire

What could they add\change besides USB 3.0?
Here is what apple says for the imac screen versus the Thunderbolt Display:
And nothing will, thanks to an amazing display design that reduces reflection by 75 percent. In addition, because the LCD sits right up against the glass, your content seems to leap off the screen.
Plus, hd FaceTime camera and dual mics, which improve dictation dramatically. The display will also have better white and black levels and improved brightness. It is a better display without the I/o improvements. USB 3 and thunderbolt 2.

Apple removed it from the online store right after the recent Apple event.

Patiently waiting for this refresh.

MagSafe 2, too.

As long as they include a MagSafe 2 to MagSafe converter. If they don't then I'd rather it be left with MagSafe 1 because I have the adapter to convert to 2 for my rMBP. If Apple doesn't make it backwards compatible that would be a mistake. We have both the rMBP and cMBP in our house.

Less Glare
Thinner
More Ports
TB2

A general refresh would be nice, not necessarily 4k. I would hate to buy an ancient dinosaur sized monitor. :p

Also, black on a monitor would be a much better contrast for the eyes.

False alarm?

I just checked, it's in the US store with a 24 hour ship time and available in all of the Apple stores near me.

This isn't a good indicator. MacBooks/Mac minis/iOS devices/accessories are quite often (if not always, these days) refreshed without Apple Store stocks running out beforehand.

The only pause in sales would be when the online store goes down/ brick and mortars are closed.

I'm not arguing for or against an incoming refresh, just that the patterns are not always obvious.

Also waiting for this one but not sure how much longer I can wait :(. I guess they'll update it to go together with the new Mac Pro?
