Hanging In There 'Til August Or Whenever The SS Motherboard Finally Ships

I'm holding out for better stock options as well. Octo-core across the board is entirely possible given the chips are barely more then their quad counterparts.
At HD Expo in Chicago an Apple Reseller thought August would be the time SS Motherboards finally ship with Mac Pro because this motherboard will be a year old by then. Combine that with the processor price drops from Intel in late July and that would put us in a likely new Mac Pro scenario before the end of summer I think. But If it's longer I'm just gonna hold out because I plan on keeping the SS 8 Core for a long time - perhaps throughout the life of Leopard's reign. Can't justify the very large expense today knowing it's only a few more months before the entire line is refreshed.

But I applaud yalls courage to forge ahead in the meantime. :)

That gives me a question. Is the 8800GTX truly the best graphics card out there or is the ATI Radeon X1950, ATI Radeon X2900 and nVidia Quadro FX 4500(not worth the money) better?
I'd go with the 8800 GTX for price and performance.

Saving lots of $$$ Vs. SS is a hard choice. I can keep waiting though. My Dell Latitude D800 has infinite lives with 250 days of Onsite warranty to go.

Where Did You Find A New Quad 2.66GHz MP For $2150 JoshWest?

thats a pretty good deal, i found 4-1gb sticks on owc for 359.99 thats the cheapest i found, id like to do the 2gb sticks but then i would have to buy two sets.. i just picked up a MacPro 2.66 for 2150$ shipped Brand Spanking new
From who where please?

No you don't have to buy two sets. That's a MYTH. All you need is two 2GB sticks for a total of 5GB. The performance hit from two 512MB sticks + two 2GB sticks is negligible if anything at all. It's a waste of money to buy anything less than 2GB sticks all the time now. We have passed the crossover point where 2GB sticks always cost the same as or less than two 1GB sticks.

Cograts on the octo core, you'll love it- I know I'm very glad I made the jump and got one.
Just wanted to comment on this, though:

You might not like the wireless keyboard and mouse... i don't know if they have updated the keyboard in the past two years or not but my newspaper made the mistake of getting a set and the batteries run out FAST.
I have the Bluetooth Apple Keyboard and I've only had to change the batteries maybe 3 or 4 times since I got it... and I've had it since March or April of last year.
I don't know how old it is, though- I bought it used on eBay, but it was in fantastic shape, so I assume it wasn't too old.

Maybe it's the batteries you use. I put Duracell 2650mAh batteries in mine.

Also note that I use mine for a minimum of 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. I exclusively type on my computer for my job, literally all day long, and the keyboard has been put through a LOT of use over the last year.
