I'm thinking about returning the Ipad today :(

I still don't understand why he also said he cannot post pictures to forums. In fact I am on my ipad now and will attach this pic for you...

For surfing i would have to say that the iPad is faster than every other device I own, including my quad core Mac pro, my MacBook pro, my MacBook air, and my iPhone 3GS. The reason the ipad may occasionally seem slow is because of the lack of multitasking and that you need to constantly switch off from app to app. Arelso I find typing a pita on the virtuall keyboard.

Whatever -- some people will return theirs but speed is certainly not one of the reasons to do so. It is blazing fast at just about everything it does.
 
Sorry but I feel this is another troll if you can't quantify what is 'slow' about the iPad. If you actually had one this would not be so difficult to do...the web browser? photos? a specific app? iPod? iTunes? Or are you just bored and have nothing else to do?
 
I for one do think the iPad is very 'slow' when it comes to surfing multiple web pages. It reloads web pages way to often (prob due to the 256mb of ram). I often open up links in new windows and when I go back to the original it has to re-load the whole page. It acts just like my iphone 3GS which except the re-loads are a little bit faster. Most apps run just fine.... I just find those re-load very very annoying... On a phone i can understand, but that shouldnt happen on a device like this.

I think the OP's problem with attaching pictures to emails is that he's probably using webmail as opposed to the built in mail app. But not sure why copy/paste doesn't work for him.
 
Im considering returning mine too, for various reasons. The only thing that is slow on the ipad is web page rendering, which is one thing that bugs me. Otherwise,its super fast.

Love your posts...realistic and honest.

Do you think it's the processor or did they make iTunes default to 'optimizing for iPad' ?

How will it work with the camera connection kit? Canon SX1 IS has HD movie and RAW file capability. If you hook it up..or even just use the SD adapter...will it load 'as is' like it shows in the video? Thoughts? I am really interested in this...

Also..I think you're right that some of the problems (?) may do with them streamlining for battery use. I do know mine gets kick-ass endurance. I haven't had any 'dealbreaker' problems...yet 🙂 but this is still everything I was looking for. I always have other computers if I need the horsepower.

In it's current state I don't find enough value to keep it (though the 4.0 announcement could possibly get rid of 80% of the grips I have about the thing)

Speed wise I think it's fast for what it is. But no way should it be faster than your laptops and desktops (from a previous post).

Specifically when talking about workflow for task it is "slower" to do many things compared to a laptop.
 
I like my MacBook Pro too. I don't think I'll be picking up the iPad. I just don't know what I'd do with it (outside of just being a novelty item).

I too hate not being able to download or attach files to web forums as well.
 
I have to join the,"slow? WTF?" crowd here. My iPad is only slightly slower at loading websites than my macbook pro, and in many cases feels faster because it doesn't bog down choking on virtual memory. Purusing through my photos is insanely fast, for expample. And no matter how complex a website is I am free to scroll and zoom without delay - more than i can say for my dual core MacBook pro.

Again, it's not a laptop. I'm not sure how so many people continue to not grasp this concept. It's not a laptop, it's not trying to be a laptop.
 
I must admit that I'm thinking about returning mine. I think I want the 3G version. The iPad really shines when it has a 'net connection. Walking around without a connection, it's good but not great.

I think the OP is perfectly reasonable to ask for a method to attach pics to forum posts or emails. Sure you can "attach" a pic that is already online at flickr or photobucket but that doesn't count. Apple owes us a way to manage local files. And it's their own fault we are asking for this. Apple opened that can of worms when they offered iWork. Having iWork on the iPad implies the ability to detach edit and attach files to email messages. Hopefully we only have another 2 hours to wait for news of a better solution than transferring iWork documents via usb cable. 😱

I would not return it today. I would wait until after the OS 4.0 announcement and even a few days to read all the analysis by all the tech reviewers. Then you can decide. If I return mine, I'll go to the Apple store and ask the manager about keeping it 'till the 3G model comes out. Who knows. Maybe I can work out waiving restocking if I pay the $130 up charge up front. It doesn't hurt to ask.

I agree 100% about local files. It might be acceptable on the iPhone/iPod touch but definately not on a device like the iPad.
 
Making fun of Bob isn't going to help things. 🙄

Bob, you own one of the most exciting tech device ever created, this is something out of Star Trek but obviously if you aren't getting enjoyment out of it, that won't matter. Give it time ok? It hasn't reached it's potential yet! Just hang on for a bit, perhaps find other uses for it or step back and find out how to maximize the iPad's use for you right now.

Bob, don't return it right away, wait while and if it's still not a good fit, then you shouldn't keep it.

I won't mind. I'm curious to see how well a windows 7 tablet might work. I have Ubuntu on my netbook and while it does work it's not as polished as I've heard Windows 7 would be and of course nowhere near as polished as I know OS X to be. I'm hoping the iPad allows me to do just enough to sell off my netbook. I know I won't be able to run OpenOffice.org or Gimp any more but there is iWork and there are several decent drawing programs. So I hope the OP knows they are welcome to come back and let us know how they made out, even if they wind up with a non-Apple solution. Oh, and as long as they aren't trolling...
