I admit there was a lot of ****** music in the 80s if comparing with the 70s. But not all of it was new wave - would you say that Slayer and Metallica were garbage? Both of those bands started up in 1981, I think.

First of All, they are not POP, second Thrash is not garbage.

Has he really sounded good for the past 10 years. At some point these acts need to know when it is time to give it up. Even Babs sounded like crap.

As for pop songs going 3-4 minutes, the usual radio single is 2:30 - 3:00 and has been for at least 40 years.

agreed. They both sounded fantastic in their prime, even past their prime. Now, they're just out of their prime and into their years where they should be forgetting where they left their pants. No one wants to hear these great people be bad and it's worse when people cheer them on as though it was 1970.

Imagine if Hendrix was still alive and releasing new stuff, the horror...
Sometimes it`s just better to go out in a (metaphorical) fireball while you`re still hot.

If Hendrix was still alive... There will be a better version of Guitar Hero. And also it is not POP.

Come on you guys - just fess up and say that you don't like particular decades and genres of music and be done with it. All the decades had its great and not so great music. Having lived through all the ones mentioned, I found all of those decades had some great artists and songs and as the old adage goes - for ever great song, I have to listen to 100 bad songs. Nothing much changes there.

I love the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, on up. I also disliked a lot of bands and songs from those eras. Just tired of seeing whiny dolt offerings of people who confuse their dislikes with quality of music - it only shows a certain sense of self involvement.

If you want to avoid pop music then you're best avoiding most radio altogether. Other than Radio 6 Music, which actually has a fairly palatable variety.

It's getting to the point that I have all but given up listening to music. I can't stand the radio. It's all crap. It's either stuff I have heard 5,000 times before or it's sucky pop music.

I like groups like Pink Floyd, early Genesis and Rush... bands that might have some short songs but also had some songs that went for 10-20 minutes.

I'm not into "jam" music like Phish or The Grateful Dead.

Anyone have any ideas?

XM radio?

Coheed and Cambria have been compared to Rush on several Occasions. The group even wrote a song called 2113 as a sort of tribute to 2112.

I don't like pop music today either (for the most part) so I avoid the radio. But Pink Floyd? I don't know about them. All of their music sounds the same; progressive space rock. I get that at the time it was innovative, but it just all blends together to me. Just my opinion though.
