Why don't you sell your macs ( if you even own any which I doubt), get an Dell or an Acer POS, go run Vista and not come back if you dislike Apple and OS X so much.

Seriously, Why do you come here to spread NOTHING but anti-mac sentiment ?

Do you realise you are just selfishly screwing with peoples dreams, pleasures, aspirations, ambitions and personal desire to try something different...

"Anti-mac sentiment"? Why is it necessary to have such a cultish devotion to Apple to post on these forums? If you want a site where people's posts disappear when they don't praise Apple to the fullest, perhaps you'd find the official forum sufficiently Reverent to The Holy Order.

You seem to think the ideal Mac forum is the type where you go about banning people who (gasp!) dare to suggest they find Windows to be a perfectly acceptable OS, and non-Apple hardware to be equal (or, in many cases, superior) to Apple hardware. But that's not a forum. That's an echo chamber.

Basically I find the fact that Neiltc13 has a cut and paste 'get a PC' response to each and every person who asks a question about buying a mac the ying to my 'Mac's a great' yang...although I see nobody ever pulls him up for every single post he ever made being the same...you just have a go at my positive pro-mac stance...evidently being 'hyped on mac's is becoming unwelcome around here...

I figure if people come to a MAC forum they want MAC advice not shooing away...

This is absolute nonsense. I made a switch to an iBook in 2005 when Windows XP was unstable and the feature set of Mac OS X was way out in front. Now we've got Windows Vista and in terms of features, both are neck and neck and it's much more stable.

Yes, there are benefits to getting a MacBook. Superior design and good build quality are the main ones, but when you compare Apple's current lineup with that being offered by other manufacturers, you'll see that every single computer in the line (with the exception of perhaps the Mac Pro) is grossly overpriced. As a student myself, I know how important it is to be frugal. There's also the fact that across the board, all PC manufacturers (well, except from Apple, who continually release ugly looking products like the new iMac and MacBook Air) are making huge advances in their design of their computers. Dell's XPS line for example is stunning to look at.

Spending extra cash on lesser hardware and also facing a challenge in using that new equipment (at least for a while) all while trying to undertake a degree is not a good plan in my opinion. My point is nothing to do with competency, it is about time. If you're spending time in class, time revising and time socialising, it doesn't leave much left for learning a new OS.

The biggest problem I faced at University with my Mac laptop was getting it to play nice with the WiFi network. It uses 802.1X authentication and the certificates required were packaged up in a .exe file. I then had absolutely no idea how to get those installed and the networking configured using my usenername and password because there were no instructions provided by my university for Mac OS X. Had I been using a Windows machine I would have had it up and running in a matter of minutes.

Well, since you put it like that I guess it's all over then.

No, the point to many of my recent posts is to show people what's out there. It's nothing to do with any hatred or love I have for any company or person.

I also think that the learning curve when getting a new OS is actually very significant and can be offputting to many people. It's something which I feel is often overlooked here. Again I reiterate that there was a time when switching to Mac was worthwhile but with Vista and OS X being so closely matched in terms of reliability, performance and features I no longer see any reason for people to make the jump for the sake of making the jump.

Also please remember you can be pro-Mac and still be pro-Windows too.

I would be careful, if your struggling to afford a Mac, are you sure you want to get Infected? it can be a veeerrryy slippery slope :D

£2,000 spent in 5 months :apple:

No, I agree, your quite right...there suddenly seems to be no compelling reasons to buy a Mac anymore especially since they are so hard to learn and so expensive...and evidently I'm an 'Apple cultist' for suggesting otherwise..

You carry on the good work, Neil...I'm done - I'll not bait any more of the Pro-PC persons on this forum anymore...
