iMac 17" and MacBook Pro 15" Resolution

Does anyone other than me think its odd that the iMac 17" and the macbook pro have the same screen resolution. I'm thinking that the 17" screen should have a higher resolution, but its the same as the 15" laptop.

I think it does have the same resolution- 1440x900. I'm not sure why, I would also think that the 17" should be able to go a little higher....

You tend to sit closer to a laptop screen that a desktop one so it makes sense for the laptop screen to be higher resolution.
