Hello -

I've got an original spec iMac 20-Inch Core 2 Duo 2007 running Sierra and it works fine.

2GHz 64bit
2GBRam
250GB HDD
Radeon HD 2400 XT 128MB

I want to use it for the kids school work, Pages, Safari so simple stuff but it seems VERY sluggish to the point where it annoys the kids to use.

Before I spend any money the question is will we see any real improvement adding more RAM, an SSD, a bigger Video card (if possible) or will is it pointless 'cos the processor etc will never be up too it?

I run a 12core Mac Pro and don't expect similar power on the iMac but a bit better performance would be nice!

Thanks

Too old to make "improvements" worth it.
Time to look for something new or at least "newer".

I have a 2006 iMac Duo Core which I use just as a music server and some light admin work.

Personally, I wouldn't spend a whole lot of money trying to get your 2007 updated. It won't run even close to the latest OS. The fastest speed probably would be putting in an SSD.

I wouldn't invest much additional money into it. If you already have some additional RAM and a SSD lying around or available really cheap then sure.
