ok...approxmitly 5-10min my iMac 20" decided to take its own life...it is now DEAD. It was the generation just before the new aluminum ones came out.

I was just in the middle of doing my cd-cover project, in photoshop, for tafe and it sounded like a small fuse blew or something. But it smelt like something burning straight after it. It wont turn on anymore. So yea...i was wonderin if this has happened to anyone? And if theres any chance of recovering my projects from my HDD (about 100gb+ worth :( )

Your hard drive should be okay.

    Are you covered with AppleCare?

currently this is my backup (Toshiba A60 Laptop) - but not all the latest versions are on this (my projects), unfortunately this only has PS7 running on it and i only just recently switched to CS3 on the iMac, and i have a couple on my USB stick. I dont mind if i dont get all of it back, i just need the cd-cover project which is the most important thing atm. Other than that id be over the moon if they could recover more.

Problems like this is one of the reasons i switched to mac, lol. I dunno how this happened though...might been surged or something. But yea..i hope the HDD is ok. Taking it into the city tomorrow to get it looked at.

Would this be the first for a mac?

it just sounds like the power supply has blown. that happened to me a while back when i was leaving my iMac on for days on end.

it's easy fixed by the guys at the Apple shop.
