Hi,

I have iMac 2008 and installed Mavericks on it. Recently i have installed update through Mac Store and since then when i boot iMac up.. I have grey bar with Apple logo on boot screen. When the grey bar is done iMac shuts down and when i boot it up again, the grey bar starts again.. i have tried SMC and PRAM reset. Nothing worked.

Do you have any solution?
Thanks for the answer

yes, still same thing.
Apple logo with running circle under it and grey bar.
Recovery mode is working (cmd +R)

Your hard drive's file system is coruppt. Your need to backup as many files as you can and then reinstall OS X.

Well i have USB flash disk.. can i somehow backup from Recovery mode? Mount HD and copy files from it to USB?

Thanks
