imac 2011 2nd HD hidden files?

Hi! Just got my iMac 27" w/ SSD+2tb HD,
noticed the 2nd HD has 800+ mb used data. Did Apple installed hidden files on the HD, is it safe to partition the HD?
Any help would be appreciated.
