Vertex3 (in background os x is even heavily working on my 700gb itunes-library) :D:D:D

... now I am happy!

Make sure your partition(s) are aligned properly as well. If not, the drive can suffer a 50%+ loss in performance.

Don't mean to be noob here but which alignment do you mean?

So what's up with the Intel 510 SSD performance?
Nobody seems to have a solution or solid information other than Aja testing.

All should use at least two different speed testing apps becaus maybe Aja has issues with intel 510 SSDs?

no worries ... I used several programs, also tested lots in win7 under bootcamp.
the results for intel 510 have been bad all the time.
for vertex3 now I just get great results, no matter which software.
aja is very simple and fast ... thats why I like it ;)

yes worries look at your thread topic
there are people still interested i guess i am not the only one.
Apart from that it can't be possible that Vertex 3 are the only drives with a decent benchmark there is stil a lot we don't understand.

I am getting almost 500 MB/s as well in read and write with the Vertex3 240GB on the Sata 0 Port of my Mainboard.

Is there actually a need to do the TRIM tweek in OSX or is it taken care of by the Garbage Collection of the Vertex3?

Sandforce controller based drives have pretty aggressive GC in firmware and are seem to do fine without TRIM. Also, in the TRIM patch thread many Sandforce users report beachballs and problems with the patch, so I would not do it.

Intel 510 or Vertex 3?

thanks for your helpful replies again!

i just went to me retailer and eschanged my intel 510 with vertex 3 ... built it in and THE PERFORMANCE WAS REALLY BAD.
kind of frustrated I decided to give the operating reinstall a try ... and now I am getting almost 500mb write AND READ in aja system test!

its really strange, but it seems like reinstalling snow leopard resoloved the problem! (or maybe it was necessary to reinstall after intels 510 messed the system, so that vertex 3 wasnt able to perform).

so, for now I can recommend any<body with similar problems to do a full reinstall of you os!

(as I mentioned before, the misperforming Intel 510 was listed as sata3 in system profiler ... and of course I did the EFI update to unlock sata3)

when I am back home from work, I am going to do further testing. I also didnt yet install the latest updates to snow leopard or enable trim ...

Hi peregrines,

I am working with a local apple certified tech to add an SSD to my 2011 i7 iMac. I just bought the Intel 510 but after reading this thread I am thinking I should return it and buy the Vertex 3 Max IOPS to avoid the risk of installing an underperforming SSD -- I don't want to have to do this twice! Since your switch to the Vertex 3, have you heard of anyone getting their Intel 510 to work properly in the iMac? Do you think re-installing the OS on the Intel 510 would unlock the speed caps in the same manner as it did on the Vertex 3?

One thing I'm worried about with the OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS is the inability to update its drivers once it is installed in the iMac (Windows-only driver updates).

If anyone has seen or heard of the the Intel 510 working properly in the iMac, I'd love to hear about it.

Hi Guys,
I´m exactly in the same situation. Got a Intel 510 here waiting for my retailer to build it in. I have chosen intel for their good reliability. I´m thinking about now to either chose the vertex 3 or go back to the intel 320 which is still faster then the 510 in the Imac. Any new findings guys ?

Thanks
