Hey guys
Thanks to this forum, my iMac (12.2) runs now smooth as silk. I installed a different GPU (780M), got the bootscreen working (thanks to Nick[D]vB) and managed to install the DyingLight module.
But still I needed dosdudes1 patch to install Catalina or Mojave.
Since I successfully used opencore on my MacPro5.1 (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/opencore-on-the-mac-pro.2207814/?post=27914713#post-27914713) to install and upgrade Catalina natively, I was wondering if it can be used on the iMac too.
So started the Internet Recovery, wiped disks (dd if=/dev/zero of=...) and did a fresh clean HighSierra install. Then I installed OC and everything worked fine. I was able to download Catalina from the AppStore and launched the install. This also worked like a charm.
But after the setup was completed, I realized that there is no more sound. I can hear the startup chime, but Catalina tells me, that there is no audio input/ouput device. Bu it was working in HighSierra though ...
Any one experienced sound issues in Catalina? Is there a way to install drivers from HighSierra?
Currently I'm doing another clean HS install and try a Mojave upgrade, to see if the sound works.

Just a quick update ... Same thing on Mojave. No audio device was found.
Does anybody know, what files dosdudes little programm patches?

As fsr as I know, dosdude1's patcher put's back legacy audio kexts for your type of iMac..

Any update here? I'd like to do the same and was wondering if it worked.

Thanks!

I have the same issue – imac 11,2, mojave installed with dosdude's patch + replaced GPU (k2100m) and opencore loader from Nick[D]vB - bootscreen and backlight work, but no sound. Tried to re-apply post install patch and rebuild kext cache but no effect.
Did you figure out how to fix this?

I too am also having this same issue once I installed Open Core 5.7, no sound. 12,2 - High Sierra

I'm going to try uninstalling it right now.

Wow, uninstalling OC by deleting the folder and doing PRAM reset didnt fix the no sound issue. When I try adjusting the volume it shows a no smoking sign.

Restoring from Time Machine to before the time I installed OC fixed the issue.

For those of you who have this dead sound output issue, is that something that is only happening as a System audio phenomenon or have any of you been using external sound devices? I'm pretty invested in a few Focusrite Saffire Pros.
