So I'm in the situation I'm getting either the basic 27" Model, or the Upper Spec (no customer orders, just what comes as standard)

I'm looking for some basic stuff (Xcode, Web browsing, iPhoto etc) which I know either machine will handle.

Additionally we'll be doing some gaming - Sims 3, Starcraft II under the Mac side, and a whole range of games on the Windows side, from Star Trek Online to Sim City.

I'd like to hear people's thoughts - is the upgrade worth the extra £200 from a gamer's perspective? I've tried reading around the subject but can't quite come to a conclusion. Any advice greatly appreciated.

if you want to play them at native resolution 1440p get the upper imac with 675mx, if you dont mind to play them on 1080p you can save some money and buy the high end 21.5" or base model 27"

So it's a pretty significant difference then? The better performance I can get the happier I'll be with reason. I just wonder if I get much more bang for buck, or would I be better off plumbing for the fusion drive instead?

i think you have 2 possibilities to be happy:
Buy high end 21.5" with fusion drive
Buy high end 27"
