Ill bet anyone 100 bucks well get an iMac with new design no retina. That's going to happen. There has been leaked parts and everything, I still don't understand why people don't believe it's gonna be a new design.

That's what most people are expecting...

There is ZERO chance of retina iMac.

Imagine the cost of a retina screen that big. The new iMac would come in at $8,000

Yeah, I actually wouldn't be surprised to first see a standalone 27" Retina display first, probably starting out with a price over $3k just like when the original 30" cinema display first came out.

As far as I'm aware, the only leaked part has been a shot of a motherboard and it was quickly identified as an iMac part from the way it looked. That doesn't scream redesign to me. Have you got references to other leaked parts that show it's going to be a new design?

I can't help but feel that if this was a *new* iMac, Apple wouldn't be lumping it in with the mini-iPad launch - it'd be a much bigger thing. I'm suspecting we're going to get more of a spec bump-oriented refresh - a faster processor, Ivy Bridge, USB 3.0 etc - rather than a complete new iMac form factor.

Jaze, I think you have it!

A spec bump makes a lot of sense with - perhaps - a fix for the screen dust intrusion problem.

Having a desktop machine thinner and lighter in weight is pointless. Particularly if the design compromises cooling. The current HD screens are more than sufficient in quality; who needs retina in a 27?

You 'weight wimps' have obviously never owned an Apple 20" CRT. That separated the men from the schoolboys.

Incidentally... there is a difference in meaning between 'their', 'there', and 'they're'.

(Personal wish list... a Bluray enabled Superdrive.)

You keep betting people 100 bucks on various topics in this forum. But no way you would pay up if you were wrong
