Broadwell was supposed to launch Q4 of 2013, it's been pushed back to Q2 of 2014, not 2015. Also Nvidias 800 series gpu's are rumored to hit shelves in 3 months, so i wouldn't be surprised to see a new imac refresh this summer.

I thought mobile broadwell is a 2014 2nd quarter release and desktop broadwell was a 2015 release.

Not here

You probably don't spend 12+ hrs a day on yours like I do.
And your eyes probably don't have the miles on them mine do.

I didn't say it was "bad" fatigue, just that I notice the difference between the displays.

Really surprised at all the hate for a retina iMac! I've been dying for this product since the rMBP launched.

My vision has been corrected for decades. I noticed a HUGE difference between the rMBPs and the 2013 iMacs for reading distance and clarity. I am having a hard time justifying almost 3K on a laptop where display issues are rampant.

I spend a lot of time on my iMac, so I would not mind a screen with even more clarity which makes reading, writing and working on the system less taxing on my eyes. I no longer spend 10 hours a day coding etc. but several hours writing and reading.

Beyond a better screen and QC, SSD standard would be nice.

The 750M 1Gb vRAM is pretty good for number 4.
From april till november 2013 i had too a 21.5" iMac with 650M and was a pretty slow in gaming on MACOS.
the 750M is a pretty upgrade and that extra vRAM serves well(i have a friend with 750M)
But if you want a more power go for high end 780M, i have one and 1080p with 750M i think is 40% slower than 1440p with 780M

Yeah, if I could get the 780M in my 21.5" I would be beyond happy.

I think one thing that COULD happen is that we see both the 21.5" and 27" sizes go away and get replaced with just a single size. Maybe that is a 24" retina model..I don't know. Probably won't happen for awhile though.

I agree with offering a more powerful GPU in the 21.5" iMac. Also, I wish that Apple would allow another BTO on the top end 21.5" to get it up to at least half the VRAM offered in the top end 27" iMac with upgraded GPU (so in this case of this generation, I wish it go up to 2GB). It would also match up nicely with the top end 15" retina MacBook Pro GPU.

Also I don't understand why Apple has to gimp the 21.5" iMac in the storage department either. It should get the same exact storage BTO options as both the top end 15" rMBP and the top end 27" iMac. If Apple can get the same amount of storage in both sizes of the iPad, then I don't see why it can't also be physically done with the iMacs.

However I don't ever see Apple getting rid of one size. If there's anything that's pretty consistent in Apple's product lineup of MacBooks, iMacs, and iPads, is that they all come in two flavors. And so far, I think it's worked pretty well for them. And now we might be getting a second size for the iphone this year. So it seems like Apple is shedding off that "one size fits all" mantra across their product line.

Since I'm going to order an iMac within a month or so, when can we expect a little specbump? March / April, or summer / fall this year?

The screen issues are not rampant - you are on a help board - people with issues come here.

I have a 2012 Imac 27 inch - I love the screen - no issues here - and every iMac I have seen on display have never shown the tint issue. It is a small amount of screens compared to the number of machines sold.

For 10 years there I would certainly agree with you Tom. After the replacement of my dud 1999 g3 iMac, I had 10 years of flawless iMacs and displays. 2010 brought issues and I'm noticing display issues on my aging 2010 iMac now (IR, yellowing, black blotches). Things I expect in several years of ownership. Not right out of the gate.

I'm glad you have no issues.

My response is about iMacs and rMBPs I've seen in Apple stores in NYC. Many of them had yellowing issues (I did not know how to look for IR or muras the last time I looked at both.)

Does everyone have this problem? No.

Do folks come on here to complain? Yes.

I complain, but I also make a point to praise when I've gotten a wonderful machine. For 10 years, I had perfect iMacs.

For the price paid, I want to continue to receive wonderful machines. Given the issues I've seen on display models lately, that is what I am skittish about.

I do not have the time or want to spend the $ on possible return roulette. I did it in 2010 until I got this iMac and that was more than enough for me.

After 15 years of iMac ownership, I am not sure what the future will bring to me personally. I look forward to being proven wrong and seeing QC go up with iMacs and rMBPs. They are great machines and that's what I hope to obtain when the time comes.

Sure there are duds in every manufacturing cycle, that's a given. I will watch and wait.

Its a game. Apple wants you to buy the $2000 27" iMac. If they can put a 780M in the 27" they could certainly put something like a 765M or 770M in the 21.5. Apple knows that if they add too many options to the lower end, no one will buy the top end. Want to get a 15" rMBP with a dGPU? You HAVE to pay at least $2600 to get it. They know that if they offer the dGPU as a direct BTO, most would be buying 750M/256/8/2.0Ghz and calling it a day.

Oh I am well aware of the whole marketing game. But did you understand Apple when they decided to match the new iPad mini to the new iPad Air toe to toe in specs? And for sake of simplicity, let's forget the whole color gamut thing for now.

Anyway, I know I certainly didn't. And I don't think I still do. I remember I was so dead set to get the iPad Air (which I did up end getting after MUCH debate), but Apple throwing that curve ball really confused the hell out of me and a lot of other folks on here as well. If what you say is to differentiate the two models and to upsell more customers to the top end models (again, which I do agree makes more financial sense), then why is Apple helping to canabilize it's own iPad Air sales from the mini sales? And if I'm not mistaken, I would think the margins are even lower for the mini.

That's why I brought up the iPad reference in my post. If they're deciding to do it there now, on a market that is substantially larger than their Mac market, why not do it there as well?

So much fatigue!! What was the world like before Retina displays?? I can't imagine!

What was the world like before the invention of antibiotics or mass transit? Don't be so dramatic. Technological progress is there to make lives more pleasurable (for most case). If I can have the comfort of the retina display, why shouldn't I be able to?

If Apple's margins are hurt by the retina, they shot themsleves self in the foot. The first mini was essentially an mini version of the iPad 2, with the same exact specs. Even the same 1024x768 screen resolution. As such, the retina mini HAD to get the same 2048x1536 resolution as the full sized retina iPad. Putting in an older processor wasn't going to fly, since it has to push the same amount of pixels as the iPad air.

Still, I figured they would have given it the iPad 4's processor. My guess is they want to move everything to 64-bit as fast as possible.

Either way, us consumers win. The retina mini's price is a steal. However, I go to a university and have seen nothing but iPad Airs. Zero retina minis. I don't think it's undercutting the iPad Air. People that want the bigger form factor get it anyway.

I have a 13" rMBP and since got an iPad Air that handles 90% of my portable computing needs. I'd like to sell the rMBP (even though it's a beautiful machine) and get a 27" iMac but just can't bite the bullet knowing that 4K is likely around the corner. I'm too used to Retina screens and want the higher PPI. Not sure 4K is in the cards for 2014, but I'll be the first to preorder a 4K iMac when available.:D:apple:

Would like to see a 24" 16:10 screen size, and also better panel quality control.

Other than that, I don't see any redesigns or even spec bumps happening in 2014. Any changes are more likely to come next year. I think this is going to be a slow year for iMac.

Keep an eye out for the new Mac mini when it is released. If you aren't in need of a dedicated GPU it will probably have Iris Pro for the I7 high end CPU. Apple could possibly release new monitors for mini and Pro. Any rate Mini should be 4k capable.
