Hey there
I would like to ask if my iMac 2017 21.5-inch (i5-7400) has only soldering pad at their logic board (the same model with faster procesor has the m2 slot) and I will solder the m2 socket then my pcie ssd drive will work ? Did Apple beyod lack of socket locked something within the firmware ? Soldering that port for me is not a big deal but I would like to know what result to expect :)

Thanks in advance for answer

I assume the 2017 follow the same path as the older models which also did not come with this port. It will also be missing all the other resistors, capacitors, ICs and such. So simply soldering the socket onto the board will not work.

Well to be honest - I have compared the photos of PCB on both with and without the slot and I dont any lack of IC's. They look pretty identical obviously just beside the port itself.

Thinking to get logic board from broken Macbook Pro 2015 and move in NGFF port with ICs.
Do you think if Firmware might an issue?

There is at least 2 chips and caps/resistors missing around port...
My hope we can move them from 2012-13 Macbook or iMac boards.

Hey friends, were you able to figure it out? I'd like to do same things for my new iMac 2022. There are paths for M2 socket but having a hard time to find actual socket that I can solder and give it a shot.
