this has been an intermittent issue with my imac for a few years, at times though i've blamed it on software or other hardware.

basically my mac doesnt like having things attached to it by usb or bluetooth.

Ive always had 2 hard drives plugged into it, one as a disc for downloading tv, one for backup.

previous problems were with keyboards, i broke my apple keyboard and tried to use two very old apple keyboards, but both would either have 1 key that wouldnt work, or random characters would appear. i blamed it on old keyboards and maybe dirt or something spilled on them.

i bought a microsoft keyboard and mouse, and had problems connecting them generally when restarting from bootcamp (which i used a lot them but not now). i then bought a HP keyboard and mouse with a dongle and its been fine.

some usb sticks, i put them in and copy files onto them and then put them into other computers and they are empty. others, i copy tv files onto them for friends and when they try to watch them, the files are corrupted and either wont open or the file skips.

today, i plugged a usb stick into the mac, and my mouse stopped working. the keyboard was fine but the mouse pointer wouldnt move. the usb stick didnt mount. after 5 mins i pulled the usb stick out and the mouse immediately worked fine.
