Hello guys,

I saw a lot of youtube clips with "How to.." but I dont saw anything about: "Replace with".
So, in other words, I have a 27'' iMac 2019 - the one with i5 8th Gen ( https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u...5-8500-processor-9m-cache-up-to-4-10-ghz.html ) processor and I want to upgrade it to i9, also I have fussion drive and I want a capable powerfull SSD.

My questions are:

Even I recently update my ram from 8GB to 32GB OWC (1 x32gb) I have moment when Photoshop or Premiere is working like S**T....

1. Which processor is the best I can use here ?
2. Which SSD is the best I can use here ?
3. I will have better results on PS and Premiere ?

Thanks a lot guys !!

Before you tear into your iMac get yourself a TB external drive to use as scratch. You have more than enough of everything to haves good experience with CC

I did some reading on those before just going for it with the i9 iMac (and buying it outright).

Regrettably, you can’t upgrade to an i9 9900 if the CPU the iMac comes with is 8th gen.

Hello, you mean that I always have to use for Scratch Disks an external SSD drive on usb ?

Damn. This is so SAD. But I think I can upgrade the SSD with something powerfull, right ?
The M.2 NVMe Samsung 2TB ?

Absolutely. and there should be massive performance gains.

There’s an ultimate thread somewhere under iMac here at MacRumors detailing upgrade procedures, compatibility, etc.

From what I recall it’s also recommended to buy an SSD heatsink to help cool the drive. Those things run h-o-t-hot.

Best of luck :)

Thanks man, last question:
I see there is an 8th of i9 https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/processors/core/i9-processors/i9-8950hk.html
Do you think that worth to change it ?

Thanks

4 -> 6 core?

Depends if you need it right away, and not sure about the CPU compatibility, would have to google it. If it’s not immediately necessary my personal choice would be to save the money for a newer iMac in the future (and invest the money instead for now)

I mean you need a scratch disk..a thunderbolt external will fill that roll

The Samsung T5 2TB ssd is great . I got mine yesterday. It connects to USB or USB-C. It small and fast ( 570/Mb/s - ish transfer rate) .
