So if Apple follows the line of updates, why there were no quad-cores?

Sorry, what line?

And processors in iMacs are 35W and 44W at the moment.

Tanj, sorry; iMac thread.

Okay, so Clarksfield is still a possibility for the iMac, at least, but with Arrandale just a quarter later, what will they use?

Somehow, I don't see Apple going from 3.06 to 2.0 as their top speed (Clarksfield).

You said laptops don't get an update in WWDC but oops they did.

I recall saying that any update would be worthless as the speed increases would be unnoticeable.

There was a thread were people were insulting you because you were so sure that update isn't coming.

Did they get Timed-Out?

Sorry, what line?

"Apple always uses the same chips across a line update."

I meant this but I think I missed you're point :p

Me either. Is there any idea of Arrandales clock speeds and prices?

That's true. Just minor updates, like better battery. Biggest thing was lower price

Did they get Timed-Out?

I can't remember. At least few got banned (they were newbies) but they were really angry because they listened you. I tried to defend you and others who said that update won't exist (including me) because there's no reason to update. Faster and better components don't exist.

I don't think we know clocks yet, and I'm assuming price will be along the lines of current Penryns.

That's what I thought as well. Wikipedia tells nothing yet but at the bottom there was something like "32nm are expected to have similar clock speeds that 45nm have".

Well, thankfully, telling people, "Yes! It IS worth it this time!" is what we'll be doing for the next update.

Yea!. Now we have to hope that Apple uses Arrandales along with better GPUs.

Maybe we should now end this conversation, only Apple knows what is gonna happen  :apple:

Because faster mobile dual-cores doesn't exist (correct me if I'm wrong).
That is true but for the 2008 update, Apple got special dual-cores at 3.07 GHz. They could have done that with the 2009 update (3.2 GHz?).

Putting a quad-core to iMac in last update would have pushed iMac too close to Mac Pro, and MP gain more options to quad-core version.
Not only are there many more differentiators between the iMac and the Mac Pro, but Nehalem is higher performing than Penryn.

I just can't see iMac getting a Arrandale yet, maybe Clarksfield or some other quad-core.
Going by your previous point, the iMac probably wouldn't get Clarksfield because the Mac Pro won't go above 4/8 cores until mid-2010.

We may not see Arrandale successors to the 35 W Penryns (only 25 W and below). That could limit Arrandale performance and clock speeds.

I see - most common combination :) I had a good feeling about this when I was playing around on apple.com

Well, what can be said about the Keyboard and Mouse? Is it useful to have a Wireless Mouse for the Mac and the NumKeyboard (which is not available as a wireless version - strange?). I know that mice are never as precise if you get a wirless mouse than a cable mouse.

Any ideas in this area?

Thank you O2xygen/07bond for your first replies. I appreciate it a lot!

no problem man:)
