Have a damaged M4 chassis that we are looking into swapping out. The previous models have the same external dimensions; the only distinguishing element is 2 vs 4 USB ports.

There is still no teardown for the 2024 M4 iMac on iFixit. I have briefly reviewed the Logic Boards from Ebay listings and they look quite similar. Any reason why the innards of an M4 iMac couldn't be ported to an earlier model?
 
I do believe they would work, yes. I personally have yet to have the opportunity to open up an M4 but I also do not see any reason for it to be any different internally.

Just as a follow up, they are different. Like, every single M-Series iMac and Port Configuration. I think the 2024 2-Port is close to the 2021 4-Port, but there were still enough differences.
