Recently received mine and very much regret getting the mouse and not the trackpad. Apple told me only way to swap out the colored orange option is to return the entire computer and re order. Has anyone else tried and have a different solution? If mouse was broken I find it hard to believe I’d have to return everything for that replacement. Thanks!

For all the trouble you'd have to go through to do "a swap"...
... wouldn't it be easier to just BUY a trackpad instead...?

can't just buy the orange version to match the iMac... I offered.

I seem to remember reading back when the iMac Pro was a shipping product that customers could obtain additional/replacement space grey accessories by speaking to a particular level of agent at the Apple store who could take the Mac’s serial number to verify ownership and permit you to place an order over the phone.

Could be worth another go?

Even more recently, cases of this working can be found on this forum. Definitely worth a shot.

Does anyone know if now the apple store will let me return just my mouse? even for store credit?

Exactly this. Just call Apple and say you want to order a color matched trackpad. Say that you know that this is something that is offered as a repair and they will forward you to the right department to place the order. You will have to provide Apple with the serial number of your iMac. I ordered my pink trackpad like this and a couple of days later I also ordered the non numeric keyboard. Both were delivered just once day after order.

That's the reason why I bought the silver one since the accessories are the same model # as the Apple ones sold separately. Insane Apple still doesn't sell them separately and requires you to return it if you decide you want a trackpad later on. Why Apple would care if you bought mismatched colors makes zero sense.

While I can sympathize with wanting matching colors, I could never bring myself to expend that kind of time and energy toward something that has zero impact on actually using the computer, and visually is barely noticeable.

Exact same thing happened to me in store with my new Apple Watch. Wanted to swap the band and made me return the whole watch then reorder. I paid with my apple account balance so I had to wait for that to be returned to my account and reorder. I was there for 3 1/2 hours.

You don't have to return anything. As I explained it is possible to order the trackpad separately.
