iMac 24" - Recording from tape

Hi,

I have a client who has a lot of music on cassette tape. He would like to import them into digital format and i was wondering with the Line In if there was a way to do this?

It would be possible using most likely an RCA to 1/8" cable run directly into the iMac's line in port - however, using an outboard analog-to-digtal converter (or at the very least an external soundcard, i.e. M-Audiophile Firewire) would greatly increase the quality of the transfer.

Do you mean a regular headphone jack cable. (3.5mm i think) Is there software on the machine that will record from the line in? If so what is it called?

Garageband could handle that. (part of iLife that shipped with your Mac)

QuickTime Pro does it as well, and, while not free, is easier to use for audio recordings than GarageBand (IMHO).

1/8"th=English/Standard/Imperial (depending where you are from)
