Hi,

I've just got a new iMac 27" (the 2.7Ghz version) and there is a noticeable backlight leak at the bottom right hand corner. I only really notice this when it's on the lock screen (with a black backdrop) or when I have a black desktop.

Is this worth worrying about and will a replacement actually be any better. I need this machine on a daily basis for work and can't be without it for very long.

Cheers

Gordon

If it isn't noticeable while you're actually doing work, don't worry about it. Every display will have some sort of light leak.

I've spoken to support and they are going to ship me a new one. Let's see if the next one has the same issues....

You got to send you're iMac first i believe? Or you get one at the same time? I surtenly couldnt wait more for another new iMac. Been without for 2 weeks now, and I'm going mad.... Doesnt get to me before monday....:)

There should NOT be any light leak. This is poor QC on Apples part. Send it back. Don't settle!

Thanks, i've contacted apple about it this morning. I've spent quite a bit of hard-earned cash on this and it's going to bug the hell out of me. May as well make use of the 90 day complimentary apple-care whilst I can....

Wait...so you didn't get Apple Care on your iMac?

No Light leak in new one?

Hi,
I am facing the same problem with my 27" imac purchased end of dec 2011.
They repaired the screen once, and now it is fractionally better, but still annoying when editing dark pictures. :(

After reading about numerous other problems that can occur I am wondering if it is even worth trying again. The repair guy didn't seem to understand what the problem was even and didn't seem particularly motivated (Yes, this is a certified service repair shop by apple)

Was your replacement ok ?

the screen backlight doesn't work on imac 27 2011, it happened before I installed GTX 880m at the minimum brightness, it works somehow, but it's worth increasing the screen brightness, the screen goes out, who can say it's a software error or a technical problem? on YouTube there are ways to solve but this is Nada again to disassemble the Mac, solder, so I do not want to open it again))) help please))

A new 2011 iMac? Is that a typo in the title of this thread? We’re in the year 2020
