I was comparing the specs of the iMac 27" 5K and the new MBP 15" and noticed the screen brightness on the MBP was 500 NITS compared to 350 NITS on the iMac. That's a pretty big difference especially since big screen TVs can get as high as 1000 NITS. So my question to iMac 27" 5K owners: are you satisfied with the brightness level on the iMac? I know too much brightness can be harsh at close viewing distance but I'm now wondering if the iMac may be a bit on the dim side compared to the new MBP. Your thoughts are appreciated.

I never use my imac on full brightness because I get dizzy as it's so bright to begin with

so yeah, I don't see the point in 500NITS tbh

I think brighter screens on a laptop (mobile device) makes more sense given that they are used in a variety of environments.

Guarantee the next iMac will get the brighter screen it's definitely a negative on the 5k iMac I own.

Really? From my perspective it's absolutely beautiful at even 3/4, I can't see any need to go much brighter than that as it is.

My eyes would melt if I put my iMac on full brightness, I definitely keep the brightness level below 50%

I would recommend to the OP that he check them out in person to see how great the displays are

^ Seconded. I had no idea until I saw it, by far the most crispy detailed resolution I've ever seen.

Wow, I mainly use it on max brightness and it still is not as bright as my ipad, I could no use it at 50% brightness, way too dark for me. 70-90% depending on the ambient lighting conditions.

Either way, it's a gorgeous display and makes my dell 27" monitor that cost me £800 in 2012 look feeble in comparison. I use Magic Window 4k live wallpapers as the comparator; the iMac 5k runs circles around my dell monitor in every way. Really disappointed that apple are all but out of the display manufacturing business, and the LG ultrafine 5k is not officially supported by the late 5k iMac; apple support were quite cryptic when I asked if they will provide a workaround for the 5k imac 2015 ie ,two thunderbolts to usbC lie the dell, or will it remain limited for the rMBPs and the upcoming 2017 iMacs refresh. I think the agent felt like I was snooping surreptitiously for info about upcoming apple products, a mortal sin!

My iMac is never on more than three bars of brightness, any more and it sears my retinas. Talking about the brightness extremes is pointless unless you routinely use your iMac outside in full daylight...
