I've finally bailed on PC and in the weekend I paid for a iMac 27 duo. I have zero Mac experience. I keep thinking I should have bought the quad so would like your advice because I need to ring the store when they open in a few hours.

1/ The dollar difference is pretty small and I could buy either.

2/ I want what will last longer.

3/ I would use the iWorks programmes, want to create small training vids (I'd get a student in to put it together), use the net a bit and download stuff. My kids play games that tend to use a bit of memory. I'm more the simple card game if anything. So I can see the duo would do the trick. I tend to own computers till they're ready to become door stops. I would use the TV function. I also want to migrate a library of training videos to the system.

    A/ So quad or duo?

B/ I often use the numeric key pad and can't imagine being without it. Does it become second nature or am I better off with the numeric?

C/ I went without the apple extended warranty because I never buy extended warranty's believing electronic things just last. Having gone Apple for the first time - is extended necessary? do Apples have problems in the first 3 years generally?

D/ I bought the machine with iWorks and iTV(eye?). Is there any other accessory you'd recommend?

    Thanks for your comments :)

save your money, the duo will be fine... Gaming for the kids will also be fine and even the lowest spec macbook runs iwork well enough so don't worry about that [IMG]

as for the numeric keypad, i myself have got used to not having it but my mum is still stuck in her ways so i had to buy her a wired keyboard that had the keypad, so really, thats something you'll have to call for yourself

And about the extended warranty, you should be fine, although I do suggest getting it if you can, as with anything, they can break... however i have never had a problem that a google search couldn't resolve, so if you're confident about your knowledge, you'll be fine

And finally [IMG] about the accessories... The only thing I use is my iSight and mic to make youtube tutorials and stuff and that comes with the imac so i think you'll be alright there..

    hope this helps

    A. Core 2 Duo will be fine

    B. There is no wireless KB w/ num pad so either wireless without it and USB num pad or the wired one with it

    C. You have a full year to buy it. I bought it because it's only 179€ and if I ever need repair, it'll cost more than that so now I can sleep my nights without thinking of losing it

    Duo will be fine.

There is no wireless numeric keypad, but I think there should be...

Not sure about the last one...
