iMac 27" Core i5 - i7(Mid 2010)Memory Upgrade - Help

Buying a new iMac next month and was wondering if I can just order it with 4gb ram and add two 8gb sticks from OWC to obtain 12gb total? Thanks.

Yep, that will work, many people on here have done that as well. Assuming you meant buying two 4GB sticks instead of 8

Nope. Im meaning take the two 2gb sticks my iMac will come with and stick two 8gb sticks with it and get a total of 12gb ram.

That's what he said, keep your 2x 2 GB ram sticks in, and insert 2x 4 GB sticks to make 12 GB.

If you change your mind and decide you want to go all the way to 16 GB, make sure you do your research about the brands of memory that will and will not work in that maxed out configuration!
