No. It won't help anything. If your computer is idling it won't be turbo boosting anyway, so there's no point to installing something to disable turbo boost when you're away from the computer. That's not how it works.

No. It will not be idling because I am still going to remote access it to do my work. Just that when I am away from desk, the cooling facility of the room such as an external fan is likely not be available.

I just tried to do a build for one of my Xcode projects using a Macbook Pro (Mid 2012) and it took 5 mins to complete.

Current Specs
2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz) with 6MB L3 cache
256 SSD
8 GB RAM

Hopefully the new iMacs can cut down the time to less than a minute.

If you want to get it under a minute, you probably gonna need one of those 18 core iMac pro's ;)
CPU's don't improve that fast anymore. A 2x improvement for the i7 iMac is about the best you can hope for I think.

I guess I just need to continue to be patient.. Haha.

I so want to vote but i dont see 3.4 + 570 + 512ssd combo for your case.
I dont see any real benefit from not picking the base model. All it matters are SSD and ram, which i think you will upgrade it anyway. Cpu and gpu improvement basically means nothing.

Yes, definitely getting 512 SSD and probably another 32 GB to add to the existing 8 GB. Hmm. You feel that I should save the money and not invest on a faster processor?

Trust me, 0.1ghz increment in cpu is just paper maths. When it comes to reality, you can never feel it, unless a second or two faster in compilation means a lot to you, otherwise just keep the money in your pocket. If you really have a budget need to spend, buy an external harddrive, it will be much more meaningful. Yes i skip talking about gpu because thats totally irrelvant upgrade for you.

"yes i skip talking about gpu because thats totally irrelvant upgrade for you."

Unless they plan on driving multiple monitors to display more code / DB Gui terminals.

Then I rec a 580 just so when you have dozens of windows open at the same time you have a card that can make mission control and window movement snappy. IMO the price is worth getting the best GPU if your workflow contains dozens of apps/windows

Yes, I plan to add 1-2 external monitors early next year.

I agree. But As a software developer, what i will do is to attach 2 1920X1080 mon in portrait mode for code navigation. I wont think of 4k or even 5k externals because its just overkill.
And bear in mind three facts,
1. 570 is far better than what you got in imac2015 top spec
2. imac2015 top spec is capable of driving 2 5k ext mons
3. 1 5k mon is actually 4 1920x1080

Thats why i get there.

I understand.

I own 2 Dell 4K monitors though. (I used to use a single one at two different locations with my MacBook 2014) Been waiting years but as soon as I get the iMac I will be moving one of them to my current office and using them both at the same time.

I love screen real estate ;)

Sure you do, I definitely will do the same if I own these 4k monitors. But I got 2 U2414h right now so I probably won't toss them away yet.
