My iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010) with ATI Radeon HD 5670 512 MB screen is going black every now and then. Usually when the brightness is higher than 6 bars. When pressing cmd+f2 2 times, it goes back to normal. When I reduce the brightness to 2 bars it stays normal for a longer time. What can I do to solve this problem?

Are you running it in Target Display Mode?

If so, it could be the Mini-DisplayPort cable/adapter or the connection. Make sure the cable/adapter is properly seated, and if that doesn't help, maybe try a different cable/adapter.

Interesting. I had just read about this being a symptom of the lead-free solder on the LED backlight strips failing due to thermal recycling. You have to resolder the connections or replace the strips. This also happens with Thunderbolt display. This iFixIt is for TBD but applies to iMac as well from what I understand.

Yeah but it would be prudent to rule out other causes such as cable issues first.
