I am upgrading to an iMac 27 inch, and I was wondering what would work better for gaming an i7 or i5. Now I have noticed that i7 is a few hundred dollars more, is it worth it to spend more?

i7 will be better simply because it's faster. More helpful to know which games as the i5 may be able to handle what you want to do just fine.

i5 will probably play most games that are out right now just fine. A couple years from now, you might be wishing you had just coughed up the extra bones for the upgrade, though.

But... is The Sims your usual game type of choice?

the 3.1 i5 and 3.4 i7 play games identically -- they both have the exact same video card.

if Sims is all you plan on doing, then either of those are overkill x10.

the base 2.7 i5 is no slouch for many, many games.
